Trump withdraws from TPP
Bravo, take credit for something we were never a party to since it was never ratified by Congress. But don't let that stop you from taking credit for withdrawing from something that we were never officially part of.

Pretty funny.
But, hey, I do give Trump credit.
He managed to tear himself away from looking at Nielson ratings and aerial photos of the Capitol Mall long enough to sign a document.
And, in my opinion, helped deliver a major victory,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, to China.

I'm of mixed feelings about this. There were things not to like about the TPP. Remember, even Hillary said she wouldn't sign it during the campaign.
That said, Goose rightly points out that if we don't participate in a comprehensive trade pact with the Pacific Rim, China will take the lead.
So okay President Trump. What's your next move?

China itself never was part of the TPP. It has been pushing its own Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which is smaller economically. It covers 16 nations, accounting for almost 30% of global GDP and more than a quarter of world trade. But if that succeeds, China would be in a strong position to lead a bigger, more ambitious Asia-Pacific free trade area in the future.

Hillary was for TPP before she was against it.
Sanders praises Trump for nixing TPP, ‘delighted to work with him’ on pro-worker policies
Seems to be a great move for workers in the United States!

Exactly. Without an agreement with the states, those 20 nations may seek Chinese leadership.

It wouldn't be a great move for U.S. workers who build things for export to Trans-Pacific nations.
$66 billion to Japan
$44 billion to South Korea
$21 billion to India
$40 billion to Hong Kong
$30 billion to Singapore
That's a lot of American worker output Trump is putting at risk. Let's hope he knows what the hell he is doing.

The executive order withdrawing the U.S. from TPP is a granfalloon.
The TPP was negotiated under former President Barack Obama, but never ratified by Congress, so withdrawing from it will not have an immediate, real effect on US economic policies, although it does signal a new and very different US outlook on trade under Trump.
So, where do we go from here?
It's going to be an interesting 4 years.
