IMHO it appears only to aggravate the situation.

I think that this is the entire rationale for the trump presidency. You tell ignorant people that all of their problems are actually very simple, if only you let the strongman take them on.
Any "peace" that these guys bring about will be authoritarian. The theory will be that "peace" is a boot on the throat of anybody who has a problem.

Donald Trump's thought process on the matter:
1) there's trouble in the Mideast
2) the trouble is caused by Palestinians, who are Muslims, which means they're part of the Islamic extremists
3) Israel is our friend & I have close business ties with them
4) the only way the area can be stabilized is if Israel is in complete control of the area
5) how can I make sure this happens?
6) who do I know and trust that is Jewish?
7) oh yeah . . . Jared . . . I'll have him take charge of the situation . . . Israeli settlements are kinda like real estate development, and Jared's good at that.
