Trump, Circa 2010

Trump in 2010: WikiLeaks 'disgraceful,' there 'should be like death penalty or something'

(CNN)Donald Trump called WikiLeaks "disgraceful" and suggested there be a "death penalty" for their actions during a 2010 interview.

Speaking on camera to preview Brian Kilmeade's radio show, the Fox News anchor brought up the topic of WikiLeaks. At the time, WikiLeaks had published hundreds of thousands of classified documents and videos that were leaked to the organization by Pfc. Chelsea Manning, known at the time as Pfc. Bradley Manning.

"I think it's disgraceful, I think there should be like death penalty or something," Trump said during the quick exchange uncovered online by CNN's KFile.

His 2010 comments are in sharp contrast to his decision Wednesday morning to invoke WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who claimed in a new Fox News interview that the Russian government was not the source of the hacks during the presidential campaign.

Following the interview, Trump tweeted: "Julian Assange said 'a 14 year old could have hacked Podesta' - why was DNC so careless? Also said Russians did not give him the info!"

Re: Trump, Circa 2010

Back in the day Fox's Sean Hannity once had pretty much the same thing to say about Wikileaks, and Assange.
I wonder what changed.

So what's the problem? Because Trump just repeated what Assange told him? And perhaps he thinks Assange is believable? How many demonized Snowden, yet were happy to report on the things he said the NSA was doing? Do you think Snowden was lying about everything?

The problem is obvious, Tim.
Trump, and Hannity are hypocrites.

But, you don't want to hear that.

It's the hypocrisy of it Tim. Gross, ugly hypocrisy. When Wiki-Leaks dumped the info Bradley Manning gave them about the Iraq War, every conservative wanted him extradited and hung and most liberals pointed to the information he provided as validating their view of the Bush administration bungling of the Iraq War.

Today, a number of GOPers and conservatives see him as a hero because he helped take down Hillary Clinton and liberals and Dems hate him because he helped take down Hillary Clinton.

Personally, I've always had mixed feelings about Wiki-Leaks (although I think Assange is scumbag, personally). Some secrets should be told, especially when American soldiers lives are on the line, future tragedy can be prevented. But personal e-mails should not be hacked and disseminated to the world, as Podesta's were.

But at the end of the day, governments and individuals are responsible for their own cybersecurity.

I think that Snowden and Assange are scumbags, and that will NOT change based upon who occupies the oval office.
And I think that Manning is just where he ought to be.

Re: Trump, Circa 2010

Just because Trump repeated Assange's claim that Russia didn't hack the emails doesn't mean Trump has changed his mind over how he feels about Assange. You'll have to forgive him for not personally condemning Assange when the left is selective on what hacks they are upset over. If the hack of Trump's tax records had cost Trump the election, I don't think the press would have cared much.

If you are OK with hypocrisy,  that is your business.
Just don't act like it's bizarre if others take note of it.
It's your failing, not ours.
