Webster’s New World College Dictionary defines lager as “a type of beer which is stored at a low temperature for aging after it has been brewed,” but for Martin Virga, a lager is much simpler than that.“It’s a good introductory beer,” said Virga, owner and brewer at Gunpowder Falls Brewing in Shrewsbury Township. “The lager beer really is a perfect accompaniment to whatever you’re doing. That’s why lagers are the most dominant beers in the world.”Saturday is National Lager Day. Notable brands like Budweiser, Coors and Yuengling are all great ways to celebrate the event, but York County has too many great craft breweries to pick up a sixer of the national brand.

Liquid Hero (York) – Hop Hero #20 Hop Hero #20 is one of Liquid Hero’s experimental, one-off beers. This version of the Hop Hero is an India Pale Lager, not to be confused with its popular cousin the India Pale Ale (IPA).“It’s a hoppy lager,” Christian Quinlivan, owner and sales manager of Liquid Hero.Hop Hero #20 blends the clean, crisp taste of a lager, while providing the hop flavor adored by IPA lovers.

Collusion Tap Works (York) – Get Basted Some in the beer industry call the Baltic Porter the lager’s answer to the stout, and Collusion’s Baltic Porter, called Get Basted, lives up to that bill.Get Basted blends the dark, rich characteristics of a porter with the clean taste of a lager, showcasing the beer's coffee flavor. The beer debuted around Thanksgiving and is currently in limited qualities, Collusion owner and brewer Jared Barnes said, so taste this one ASAP.

Gunpowder Falls (Shrewsbury Township) – Literally anything Lagers are a tough beer to brew due to the malt needed and the brewing temperatures required in the process, but Gunpowder Falls Brewing exclusively brews lagers.“I was trained in Germany, and that’s what this brewery is set up for,” Virga said.Celebrate the national day with any of the breweries beers, including the German-style Pilsner, Export Hell or the German-style Dunkel.

South County Brewing (Fawn Grove) – Pullman Pilsner Have a little history with your lager. The Pullman is a Bohemian-style Pilsner named after the Pullman Motor Car Company, one of many automakers in the York area in the early 20th century. The brew uses a combination of German and American Northwest hops for its crisp taste.J.R. Heaps, South County founder and head brewer, said the beer has been well-received by many in the area and can be found both on tap at the brewery or at local area retailers.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,”  former vice president Biden said during a campaign event in Texas on Monday. "All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”

I've had the Gunpowder Falls brew and I liked it.  Can't speak to the other ones, but upfront, I should say I'm not a big strong 'hoppy beer' guy.  I was when I was younger.

I'm not too terribly far behind you, age-wise, so it gives me cold shivers to think that I might soon lose my fondness for "hoppy" brews.
