AFTER the Election

Let's for now believe that all the current polling is correct and that Hillary will win the electoral college by a substantial margin and perhaps as it looks that the Dems will narrowly regain control of the Senate. Now what ?

Seeing the current rhetoric going on at Trump rallies about a rigged election and worse, it is hard to image there will be ANY coming together to get things done. I hope that is not true, but I am betting on an even more divided nation especially how this campaign was waged.

I certainly don't see Hillary winning any far left concessions. The work that can perhaps be done is in the center which is likely where is SHOULD be done anyway.

The real issue since it is such a sticking point is how the nomination of Supreme Court Justices will go IF Hillary gets elected. The Republicans can try to stall but eventually one will have to be confirmed. As a point of note, Supreme Court judges that were thought to be one way or another have turned out not to be so in the past.

Hillary's big issue here is trying to get Citizens United overturned which I heartily agree with. Any effort to get more money out of politics is a good thing.

Fortunately we only have another 3 weeks of agony till this is all over and the TV channels will now have to look for a replacement for their constant stream of money coming from political attack ads.

"After" the election?

But, won't America be completely and utterly destroyed...while being handed over to terrorists...and abortionists...while Sharia Law is implemented...and former president Obama can finally return to his native homeland...on a golf cart...reading his signed, first-edition Quarn...the dedication reading "This one's for you Barry!  We sure fooled them, didn't we?

I don't see that as Hillary's big issue. And unless their were some major Dem majorities in the House and Senate, she'd need to rely on the SCOTUS to get anything done with campaign finance reform. And for that to happen, she needs to get a new justice appointed to the court and wait for a campaign finance reform case to be accepted by the court.

In my mind, I think the things that Hillary could get pushed through in the first six months of her administration is an increase in the minimum wage, something like paid maternity leave, and if she can get GOP cooperation, some minor reforms to immigration law.

Where Hillary has the potential to affect real change is in trying to lead on getting the middle east in order. Drive out Assad, push Putin back to the Kremlin, and finish off ISIS. Of course, that is likely going to require some risk to American troops. And that will cause blowback from the left and right.

Otherwise, I think we generally stay on the same status quo path we've been on for the last 12 years.

Maybe so, but evidently the majority of Americans might be ok with that, I guess.  Obama's approval rating is around 60%.  GW's was around 25% when he left office in 2008.

But there is that swath of American that Trump connected with and I do NOT mean the bigots and racists or conspiracy theory cooks of which rigged elections is one of. What I mean are the middle class who have lost good paying jobs and still struggling. The next POTUS has to address that or it will again be an issue in the 2020 election.

Re: AFTER the Election

After the election . . .

My wife & I will be heading for Playa del Carmen with our kids and grandchildren for our annual Thanksgiving get-a-way.

It will be a relief to get this sideshow over with. I suspect most people will feel a sense of relief. Hopefully everybody will get back into their regular groove. The only thing I can see that will screw that up is if Drumpf continues to bang his nonsensical drum about his distorted, unreal charges of a "rigged" election in person or through his proposed broadcast channel. Inshallah we have seen and heard the last of candidate Drumpf.
