In the last few days Donald Trump has hinted that he will bring up Bill Clinton's sex scandals in the next debate.
Pretend you are Trump's campaign manager. What would you advise him to do?
Would this work, or disastrously back-fire?
It would absolutely thrill Trump die-hards. But, they are voting for him anyway.
But, if you are 30 years old, paying off student loans, raising a young family, is this at all interesting or relevant to you?
I mean, you were six years old at the time Gennifer Flowers made her announcement about a guy who isn't even on the ballot this year.
I would advise Trump not to go there. I don't see it helping him. Trump's treatment of Ms Universe from 1996 worked for a few reasons. 1. He said those things, not his spouse. 2. It played into an existing narrative about Trump being a misogynist. And 3. Trump is so thin skinned that he gave the story legs by talking about it for two days after the debate.
Clinton faces no such problems. The charge that she "enabled" Bill does not - in my opinion - seem to be a strong one. Yea, she had choice words to say about his paramours, what wife wouldn't. And she could turn the story around into a forgiveness narrative.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. From a purely political, "will it work" angle. Personally, I speak as someone who to this day is very critical of the Lewinsky thing. The other lovers were adults. She was 20 and he was the most powerful man in the world. It was disgusting. But it was his sin, and Bill ain't running.

Yep, that is another potential danger of the "Kill Bill" strategy.
It opens the door for Trump's extramarital escapades.
And Trump, unlike Bill is on the ballot!

None of this belongs in any presidential campaign and especially during a debate when viewers, aka as voters, are interested in what the candidates have to say about their programs that may improve their lives and their country during the next four years. As Goose and others are saying--Bill Clinton is not running for POTUS and if I was Hilliary and Drump started being really stupid again during the next debate I would let him know in no uncertain terms that what Bill did during his presidency and before has no bearing whatsoever on this campaign and I would not address any statements Drump makes from thereafter.

Let's Play Campaign Manager is quite possibly my favorite game......
If I was Trump's campaign manager, I would threaten to leave him if he said one word about Bill's affairs.
The only people who would cheer than are people who hate Clinton already. To everyone else, it would make her a sympathetic figure.
If I am Trump's campaign manager, I focus on four things and only these four things for the rest of the campaign.....
1) Hillary as a lifelong Washington politician
2) Her vote for the Iraq War
3) The current situation in the middle east (Benghazi, Syria, Iran Deal, refugee crisis)
4) The Supreme Court
Here's how all of those things play well for Trump....
1) It's a change election, the people generally hate the federal government these days (even centrist Rs and Ds). Hillary as POTUS means the status quo remains.
2) Her support for the Iraq War cancels out his support for the Iraq War
3) The Middle East today is a mess. Obama, like him or not, has chosen a diplomacy first policy to Syria while Russia has stepped in to play strongman. Turkey, a NATO ally, is on it's way to possibly becoming an Islamic State. ISIS in entrenched throughout Iraq. Trump can tie Hillary to a lot of the Obama foreign policy and say more of the same is on the way.
4) By talking about SCOTUS picks, Trump can shore up wavering evangelicals who might have just stayed home.

Leave this one alone...unless Monica went down on Hillary too.

Good ideas.
I felt that Trump might have gained some traction on the "you've been around 30 years and haven't accomplished much" argument. Clinton would be wise to have an answer for that. She needs to sell herself on women and child issues, healthcare, etc. And, As sec of State job creation and wage inequity was not in her portfolio. She needs to make that heard. And, Donald once said that workers were over-paid. Stuff like that.
But, this is one area that I feel out of touch. This economy, and Bill Clinton's years have been very good to me. I do not have the angst that so many people have. I am trying to hear people. But, I keep thinking, you believe that guy is gonna help?
