Arnold Palmer dies at 87

Growing up in Ligonier, PA, Arnold was a hero to everyone in the area. When I took my grandson for the first time to the Steelers training camp at St. Vincent College, I pointed out Palmer's Cadillac dealership, Latrobe Country Club, and the Latrobe airport that they lengthened the runway when Arnie got his first jet. The locals didn't want him to have to fly in and out of a private airport near Pittsburgh. My grandson now plays golf and tells his friends he knows where Arnie lived and worked when he was a kid. He was truly a man of the people.

It will be strange not seeing Arnie at various golf tournaments.  He showed up at many and was always interviewed but someone.  Although never directly involved in golf personally, except watching on tv,  I always enjoyed seeing him anytime.

Re: Arnold Palmer dies at 87

I'm too young to remember Palmer as a competitive golfer. I think of him as more of a pitchman for Quaker State motor oil back in the 80's and 90's and more recently those commercials for the anti blood clotting drug.

During the Eagles game yesterday, Jim Nantz made mention of Palmer being a Steelers fan and that he had recently been under the weather and that they hoped he'd be better soon.

He had a great life and seemed pretty active up to close to the end.

RIP
