New York at it's Best

I was having dinner with my daughters in a restaurant  in Chelsea last night when the Bomb went off about four blocks away. I have to be honest, we didn't hear anything, didn't feel anything. No lights flickered. We weren't even aware that anything had happened until we left the restaurant. On the street things were rather chaotic as we walked back to our hotel. NYPD officers directed us - professionally & courteously away from certain streets and we made a rather circuitous journey back to our hotel.

This morning I didn't know what to expect. Streets were quiet and there was a large police presence. We went to the Intrepid museum - which you really should check out -and found a large, relaxed crowd. Afterwards we went to lunch at Eataly. The streets were once again full with shoppers and Sunday walkers.

There was, near Madison Ave and right in front of our Hotel a Mexico day Parade. Closed off streets, a big crowd, marvelous costumes. I admire the New Yorkers for their courage. They carried on as if it were any other day.

Big police presence, from directing traffic to a few heavily armed groups discreetly placed at intervals. But everywhere the police were calm but vigilant; serious but courteous, even friendly. they exuded a sense of competence that was most reassuring.
Many Thanks to New York's finest for keeping us safe!

I have to admit that I will feel a real sense of relief when the day comes that daughter #3 decides to move to the country.

Some pretty nice and speedy investigative work by the FBI and police.
