Trump's Naivete on Full Display

Donald Trump's great idea for defeating ISIS: He's going to ask the military to come up with a plan.

Because,,,,, no one has ever thought of the idea of a plan before. Vintage Trump. Tell The People that our problems have easy answers, but only if the Generalissimo gets elected.
 Sophomoric? Hell, that's infantile.

The Problem with defeating ISIS is NOT that we've never sat down and thought about it. The problem is that there are no easy answers, no 30 day wonders. Defeating ISIS - which is occurring now - is a long, painstaking process.

You want something quicker? OK Commit hundreds of thousands of US ground troops to Syrai and Iraq, kill lots of people, watch thousands of our soldiers get killed or maimed,,,,, and then prepare to deal with the next problem. You know, the one you just created by seeking a quick solution in that troubled region.

And, make sure that you put some of the Trump kids in uniform for it.

Retired general calls Trump's 30-day ISIS order 'sophomoric'

(CNN)A retired army general is slamming Donald Trump's remarks that as President he will ask the US military to come up with a plan within one month to defeat ISIS."I had to ask myself, what the hell does he think we've been trying to do for the last 14 years in terms of al Qaeda?" Retired Army Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling told Anderson Cooper on AC360 on Tuesday.

At a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, Trump said that on day one of his presidency, he would convene his top generals and give what he called a "simple instruction" to in 30 days submit to the Oval Office "a plan for soundly and quickly defeating ISIS."

The former commanding general decried Trump, calling his orders "simplistic" and insulting to individuals working to defeat ISIS. "It shows a complete lack of understanding of the threat and the ways to fight it," Hertling said. "It's a sophomoric approach to elements of national security policy because if he's just calling in the military, he's missing the point that there are several other elements of national security that will help defeat ISIS."Hertling argued that the US has made some good advances against ISIS.

Democrats have highlighted statements Trump has made about military leaders in the past, most notably criticizing him for saying in November 2015,"I know more about ISIS than the generals do, believe me." Hillary Clinton brought up the line in July, saying, "No, Donald, you don't."

Trump's comments came on the same day his campaign released a letter signed by 88 retired military leaders endorsing his presidential candidacy, including four four-star generals and 14 three-star flag officers. Hertling said he was surprised by the letter praising Trump.

"I didn't recognize many of those names as being there in the fight with me over the last 16 years," Hertling said. "There aren't a whole lot of names in the fight against al Qaeda or several of the other forces."He said most of the names on the list are Navy admirals who were not on the ground during the war against terror.

Hertlingserved in the Army for 37 years.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

Re: Trump's Naivete on Full Display

Yeah, well I'm getting a little nervous with these polls tightening up. Hillary better kill it tonight at the town hall forum. Because my sense of things is that Trump is building a little momentum.

More importantly, in Pennsylvania, the Clinton campaign has been running a series of ads that shows Trump acting all kinds of insane during the primary (my favorite is the one where Bill O'Reilly sighs at the end).

I'm not making it up when I tell you that I have seen those commercials at least 500 times in the last month.

My wife and I while making the dinner and watching the news last night upon seeing the commercial agreed that we're kinda sick of it. I think after a while commercials like that lose their effectiveness. I go from general disdain for Trump when he says "And you can go tell them to go <bleep> themselves" to quietly chuckling every time I hear it (because I'm mentally still a 14 year old).

Hillary needs to turn on the juice and start calling Trump out on his lack of policy, vision, and sanity.

Re: Trump's Naivete on Full Display

Wait a minute . . . Didn't Drumpf say he knows more about ISIS than all the generals?

I'm pretty sure the Donald said that . . . As a matter of fact, I believe Hillary uses the video of him saying exactly that in one of her political ads. So, why is he asking the very people he claims don't know nearly as much as he does to come up with a solution to a problem?

Probably so he won't be held responsible for the disastrous results of his own uninformed decisions.

Re: Trump's Naivete on Full Display

The commander-in-chief forum on NBC tonight should be an interesting test for Trump.

It's being sponsored by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, which does great work advocating for vets, but politically leans to the left. The town hall is in New York just days from the 15th anniversary of 9/11, where Hillary can tout her admirable work as a Senator in providing funding for rescue, clean-up, and rebuilding and Trump has to defend his lie about Muslims cheering the collapse of the twin towers.

As each candidate only gets 30 minutes on stage (minus commercials), there is not going to be much time to give extended, detailed answers on foreign policy or veterans' issues. That means soundbites are going to win the day and I think that helps Trump a little bit.

Like I said, it should be interesting.

"and Trump has to defend his lie about Muslims cheering the collapse of the twin towers." --Lager

I remember seeing the video then finding out it was from a demonstration three years earlier in Israel.

I'll be curious to see if Drump appears and reads off prepared script written by someone else--probably someone who knows not much more than he does.
