2015 York County Commissioners Race

Looks like the GOP primary will be lively.  12 year incumbents Chris Reilly and Steve Chronister are being challenged by TEA party advocate Kerry Hinshaw of Red Lion and Susan Byrnes (as in Byrnes Health Education Center) of Springettsbury Township.

Now here is where things begin to get interesting.  Hinshaw has run unsuccesful campaigns against 94th Disrrict assemblyman Stan Saylor, who has risen into leadership in the state house.   Saylor was not amused by incumbent Steve Chrionister's very public endorsement o Tom Wolf for Governor.

Stan Saylor is Susan Byrnes campaign chair.

Can you say, "a plagaue on both your houses?"  That sure seems to be Saylor's unspoken line.

I don't follow York County politics as closely as I used to, but isn't Henshaw one of those perpetual candidates that can never seem to get any traction outside of Red Lion?

Re: 2015 York County Commissioners Race

Henshaw has "only" managed to get elected to Borough Council in Red Lion, and there he has shown a fiscal conservatism that goes beyond most TEA partiers.

Most TEA partiers are OK with essential government services--Henshaw fought the York Area Regional Police contract to the point that as of the stroke of midnight on New Years YARP was out and PSP was in.
He is crowing about how he saved "the Borough" some $800,000.00--but guess what, the rest of the state taxpayers are picking up the tab.

If every municipality in the state did like Red Lion where would we be?

I look at his dealings with the police contract as being little more than a political maneauver to try to make himself look more conservative than Chris Reilly.

Hopefully it will backfire big time.

Re: 2015 York County Commissioners Race

Another thing to watch closely, with potential beaing on this race:

The YDR is reporting that Commissioner Chronister has approached York City officials about selling part of the square--you read that correctly, part of the open, common space that has been that way for over 250 years--to a private real estate developer who is contemplating buying the old Bear's building, most recently used by various city and county offices.

Chronister was a real estate agent before getting into politics.  He never left the trade completely.

I smell conflict of interest....follow the money!
