Amish PAC backs Drumpf

Are you kidding me ! ? ! ?

The Amish are endorsing Drumpf . . . Do they totally disregard his distorted version of 'family values' . . . Do they really like gambling casinos and private golf resorts that much . . . Do they approve of a guy traveling around in jets, helicopters, and limos with his name emblazoned on them rather than clip clopping around in a horse drawn black buggy?

If they turn out in force to vote, will Drumpf carry swing states Pennsylvania and Ohio?
Nah . . . Probably not.

What's that old saying about politics makes for strange bedfellows . . . Well, this one takes the cake . . .
Or, at least, the shoo-fly pie.

Ya gotta hand it to them. That is a strategy!

Re: Amish PAC backs Drumpf

So who should the Amish back? Are there any candidates out there who ride around on horse and buggies and don't use electricity for them to support?

I would have thought they would have backed the Green Party given their platform.

I am really surprised that the real Amish see, hear, or read much at all about the Don.

BTW, I think they better get a new get out the vote campaign person if they think the Amish will tip the election !

Well, there is much more to being Amish than riding around in buggies.
It is a system of beliefs that really should not be reduced to a caricature.

Since hubris and arrogance are antithetical to Amish modesty, and  Trump does not display the religious beliefs that would attract Amish people, and  in Amish communities, both divorce and bankruptcy are cause for excommunication, Trump does not seem a logical choice for them from a values standpoint.  That really should be obvious.

And from a policy stand point, as tennyson noted, the green party or libertarian candidate would seem a better fit.

Re: Amish PAC backs Drumpf

Just so that we don't, you know, put the cart before the horse , we should note that this really is not an "Amish" PAC.

It is the brainchild of a 27 year old guy named Walters who used to work for Ben Carson. He has raised about $25k, and to the best of his knowledge none of the donors are Amish.

It is an attempt by Trumpers to reach out to the Amish community for votes. We have absolutely no data on the Donald's support within that community.

It's an outside the box initiative. Let's see if it does anything.
Amish turnout in 2004, according to the article, was all of 1674 or so votes.
This is "retail politics" in the extreme.

Re: Amish PAC backs Drumpf

It's not about Trump.  It's the fact he has an 'R' after his name. That's what matters to much of the Amish community around here.

Maybe he could build a casino in Lancaster for their support !
