Clint Eastwood Poses With Son Scott for Esquire, Slams Trump for Saying ‘a Lot of Dumb Things’


Clint and Scott Eastwood posed together for Esquire magazine’s September issue, and while the topic of conversation – politics, naturally – will certainly prove controversial, at least we have some nice pictures to look at. On the topic of the election, Clint says he hasn’t endorsed anyone, but does weigh in on Donald Trump.

“You know, he’s a racist now because he’s talked about this judge,” he explains, referring to Trump’s remarks about Judge Gonzalo Curiel. “And yeah, it’s a dumb thing to say. I mean, to predicate your opinion on the fact that the guy was born to Mexican parents or something. He’s said a lot of dumb things.”

Lest you think the outspoken Republican is leaning towards Hillary Clinton, Clint adds in defense of Trump, “So, have all of them. Both sides. But everybody – the press and everybody’s going, ‘Oh, well, that’s racist.’ They’re making a big hoodoo out of it. Just f**king get over it. It’s a sad time in history.”

The 86-year-old also comments on the current political landscape, saying, “We’re really in a p***y generation.”

“Everybody’s walking on eggshells,” he notes. “We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist. And then when I did Gran Torino, even my associate said, 'This is a really good script, but it’s politically incorrect.’ And I said, 'Good.’”

Though Clint did not speak during this year’s Republican National Convention, he does reflect on his now infamous “chair talk” during the 2012 RNC, revealing that the speech was inspired by lyrics from a Neil Diamond song.

“He’s going, 'And no one heard at all / Not even the chair,’” he recalls. “And I’m thinking, that’s Obama. He doesn’t go to work. He doesn’t go down to Congress and make a deal. What the hell’s he doing sitting in the White House? If I were in that job, I’d get down there and make a deal. Sure, Congress are lazy bastards, but so what? You’re the top guy. You’re the president of the company. It’s your responsibility to make sure everybody does well.”

As for Hollywood, the Eastwoods will go head-to-head at the box office next month. Scott, fresh off co-starring in the superhero flick, Suicide Squad, will next appear in Oliver Stone’s Snowden, which hits theaters one week after Clint’s latest directional effort, Sully.

So, what has the 30-year-old actor learned from his famous dad?

“My father’s definitely old-school. And he raised me with integrity – to be places on time, show up and work hard,” he simply says.

Meanwhile, in other political news, Blake Shelton recently insisted he was not endorsing anyone when he said “a lot of people are pulling” for Trump.
