By the way, you can go to most any western embassy or consulate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and attend private religious services of other religious denominations. Ususally--except for the occasional amputation, stoning, and beheading.

Having your back or buttocks lacerated until it looks like raw hamburger certainly beats losing life or limb, but not by much.

Re: Can Christianity Survive in the Middle East?

I wouldn't know since when we lived in the kingdom we followed the laws and customs of the country to avoid any possible prosecutorial punishment.

The same as I would expect any foreign national living in the U.S. to follow our laws while in our country.

Re: Can Christianity Survive in the Middle East?

Maybe just the same question could be asked is if ANY religion can be successful long term in the Middle East. It seems as you find out more and more about the region, that besides the antimosity between Muslim groups and Christian (or other) religious groups, that in addition there is a general equal antimosity amongst ALL the predominant Muslim groups of the area. The Iraq current situation with ISIS is an excellent example of all of the above where meny of the forces battling ISIS in Iraq are Iranian backed Shia militamen.
