We have been having a lot of fun with the RNC. However, last night the participants turned from responsible citizens to an angry, ugly mob.
Hey, this plays to the base. But, it makes the rest of us think you are dangerously unhinged.
The Republican convention’s fixation on locking up Hillary Clinton is really disturbing
CLEVELAND — It’s pretty disturbing to hear a large crowd at a major party convention repeatedly call for the jailing of the leader of the other major party.
And I’ve heard that happen again and again at the Republican convention so far, as the clear favorite chant of the attendees is: "Lock her up! Lock her up! Lock her up!"
It’s not just the crowd. Three speakers at the podium on the first day of the convention called for Hillary Clinton to be jailed.
And Chris Christie’s speech on day two, while nominally a critique of Clinton’s foreign policy judgment, was framed as a "prosecution" of Clinton in which he repeatedly asked the crowd whether she was "guilty" or "not guilty."
Naturally, the crowd interrupted Christie four times with the "lock her up" chant. Indeed, the idea of sentencing Clinton to prison has been the only thing that’s really excited the crowd so far on this listless second day.
To me, all this seemed like a new crossing of a line and an ugly degradation of a norm in American politics.

Utah delegate says she was threatened in bathroom after anti-Trump push
CLEVELAND – A Utah delegate at the Republican National Convention says she was threatened Monday night inside one of the venue’s bathrooms, after her delegation led an effort to challenge Donald Trump’s presidential nomination.
“I … came out of my stall, and there I was confronted by two women,” said at-large delegate Kera Birkeland, according to her account on Facebook of the incident. “They yelled at me, called me names. They said I should die.”
The incident, as reported first by the Salt Lake City Tribune, followed an uproar on the convention floor when delegates objected to convention rules that would smooth the way for Trump's nomination.
The attempt was led by the Utah delegation.
But Birkeland insists she isn't part of the Never Trump movement that has persisted through the election season. And she said the failed push Monday for a roll-call vote on the rules wasn’t about Trump, just an attempt to make the national Republican Party more transparent.
She said the two female Trump supporters in the bathroom of the Quicken Loans Arena said police protection should be pulled from the Utah delegation “and that we should all die.”

I suppose a better night from a GOP perspective last evening. The optics were better. The speeches were more coherent, and more effective.
I predict at some point down the road, Donald Trump Jr. will be running for president. Unlike his dad, he actually seems like a Republican.
After hearing Christie's speech, and the way it was delivered, I'm shocked that Trump didn't take him over Pence for his Veep slot.
Yes, the whole "Lock Hillary Up" chants and overall theme of putting Hillary in prison throughout the convention is really off-putting. I think Steve Schmidt, the GOP operative said it best when he said it had the feeling of something you would hear in a Banana Republic. We don't lock up political opponents in America. And that the Trump people could be overplaying their hand by returning to that message over and over.
That said, for me personally, every time I think about the whole private server, lack of security of national information, the attempt to hide public information, and how Hillary misled/lied to to everyone about it, it does angry up the blood.
I thought Paul Ryan's speech was good. Of course, he has been the only speaker that I have heard that has been forward looking and ideas driven. The rest of the convention has been lacking that and I don't see that changing and that's going to be the biggest miss coming out of the convention.

What a novel idea for a politician !

Lager, I understand your anger at the email thing.
However, Christie, and the crowd went way overboard with the chant of "guilty", and "lock her up" when talking about Libya, the Iran deal, and several other perfectly legal policy initiatives. This is nothing short of criminalizing political opponents.
As you mentioned, something more fit for a banana republic,,,, and well beneath these great United States.

And, from the batsh*# crazy wing of the party,,,
Ben Carson wants you to know that he opposes "secular progressives," the "political elite," the media, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton — and Saul Alinsky and Lucifer.
No, that's not a reach,,,,,,,,
Comparing your political opponent to the devil.
Ben Carson,,, keeping it classy.
And to think,,, for all these years we have been over-estimating the intelligence of brain surgeons
Ben Carson rails against Hillary Clinton, Lucifer
,,,,,,,,,,,
Carson told the crowd that one of Clinton's role models, community organizer Alinsky, "acknowledges Lucifer" in one of his books, reflecting the views of secular progressives who would remove God from the nation's life.
"We will not be blessed, and our nation will go down the tubes," Carson said.

I am hoping we have an equal number of "funnies" at the DNC as well.
