There are two occupations I would never want these days. Three (and counting) police officers in Baton Rouge are dead and I would not want to be a member of the failed Turkish coup!

Yet another heart-breaking day.
How can we bind up the nation's wounds?

Thankfully, the police killings in Baton Rouge stopped at three. More nonsense happening in Baltimore again today too but hopefully no dead cops.

President Obama and former President George W. Bush made excellent steps in that direction through their well chosen, balanced remarks at the public memorial service last Tuesday.

I agree.
Never was a huge fan of the former President, but I really respect him and his address last week.. Bush has a good heart, and his remarks displayed a great understanding of the healing that must take place.

Sad thought this morning.
We have had several threads on the Exchange about the militarization of police forces in the United States.
I think that it is a shame, and that police should have a guardian rather than a warrior role/mentality.
Others have pointed out that police need this equipment to be safe.
I have, sadly, concluded that they are right.
In fact, I think that police should carry AR-15s at all times while on the job.
The police need to be outfitted like heavily armed infantrymen.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Because,
We have allowed the populace, good guys, bad guys, disturbed guys, radicalized guys, reckless guys, hateful guys,,,, to be armed like infantrymen.
What have we wrought?
