Reports have them on the short list.
What do you think?

Well, maybe that's the best he could find who are willing to take the job.

I don't see newt helping with expanding trumps appeal.
But he was unlikely to go against type with his pick.
Team Clinton will be smiling if it's newt

Either of those two would be fine for Trump, but the VP selection usually does very little to impact an election.
I don't think the selection of either would "turn off" any potential Trump voters, but it probably won't help him much either.

I tend to agree.
Thinking back to 2008, much was said of Sarah palin's gaffes costing McCain support.
But in reality the tide was just running against McCain. His campaign was dreaming that palin could do things that no vp pick could do.
In a very close election could it turn the tide?

In a close election, I could see how selecting someone who is very popular from a swing state as VP might help that Presidential candidate win that state.
Outside of that, I'm not sure it makes any difference (either positively or negatively). I didn't think Palin was qualified to be VP and didn't want to think of her as President, but I still voted for McCain.

Gingrich is as much of a joke as Trump.
"What am I supporting today? What's likely to get votes?"
Newt spearheaded the tobacco settlement then proposed a bill to give tobacco companies a tax break which, strangely enough, was the same amount of the settlement.
Newt spearheaded Citizens United, crowed when it was upheld, the complained loudly about big money steering elections when the ran for president.
Newt cuddled up to the religious right while breaking every commandment he could get away with.
That's just the stuff I knew before I turned my back on the world. No idea what he's been doing for the past 7 years.
Could someone please explain why this guy gets so much support?

I don't see either helping him at all.

NBC just reported that Indiana Gov Mike Pence is meeting with Trump today.
Interesting choice. I remember wanting Pence to get in the GOP race back in 2012. Seemed pretty moderate back then.
But then he signed on to the anti-gay Indiana religious freedom law (which he eventually backtracked on) and then backed Ted Cruz in the 2016 Indiana primary.
If Trump's game plan is to get to the White House by driving through the rust belt, Pence would be a decent choice. Indiana has been pretty successful from a manufacturing standpoint during Pence's governorship (and Obama's administration).
He's a religious conservative but doesn't have a history of being bombastic.
He's resume includes 10 years in the House where he was generally liked by those who are now leading the #NeverTrump movement. He could be a bridge to that group.
All that said, my prediction is that Pence isn't Trump's choice.
