I guess that I will get the ball rolling on giving this some actual thought.

Is Trump intelligent?
Simple question. Complex answer.

Trump is clever. He has demonstrated an ability to promote and further himself and his interests. He has the ability to Read the room, and determine what an audience wishes to hear. He understands complex real estate deals. He thinks on his feet. So, that's good.

But, can Trump think abstractly? Does he have the ability to acquire and apply new knowledge? Does he have the ability to understand and empathize with other points of view? This does not look so good. Donald seems to know what he knows, and that's about it. Trump seems uninterested or unwilling to understand any public policy issue beyond the most superficial sound bite. He seems to have no more knowledge about policy than he did a year ago. Finally, Trumps nearly endless series of statements that are clearly untrue suggests either a profound ignorance, or an active disdain for learning.

I guess the big question is this; Is Donald Trump incapable of acquiring expertise, or has he just decided that actual knowledge and competence in issues will not help him realize his ambitions in this very odd election year?
