I have a question for you all that I am genuinely curious about....
I totally get the opposition to civilian sale of weapons like the AR-15.
My question is are you just as opposed of the sale oft the AR-15 to non-defense government agencies?
This week, our organization at OpenTheBooks.com released our findings in an editorial at The Wall Street Journal that quantified the growing federal arsenal. The number of non-military federal officers with arrest and firearm authority (200,000+) now exceeds the number of U.S. Marines (182,000). Spending on guns, ammo and military-style equipment at 67 federal agencies – including 53 regulatory, administrative agencies amounted to $1.48 billion between 2006-2014.
The IRS gun-locker is an example of this growing federal firepower. Nearly $11 million was spent on guns, ammo, and military-style equipment for 2,316 ‘special agents’ during this period. The IRS stockpile includes pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns with buckshot and slugs; and semi-automatic AR-15 rifles (S&W M&P 15) and military-style H&K 416 rifles.
I can understand how a rational gun owner would be confused by the inability for him/her to purchase a specific type of gun, while a non-military government agency would be able to.
So I wonder if it makes sense that if legislators were to ban the sale of specific guns to the public, should it also extend to the non DoD or FBI agencies as well?

I don't believe I would have a problem with military style weapons being available to well regulated militia components of the government while citizens not affiliated with those well regulated militia components would not be allowed to purchase or possess those weapons.
I would also say that, from my perspective, based on the figures you cited, that the proliferation of those weapons to certain government entities seems to be excessive. Almost like our tax dollars are being irresponsibly spent on excessive weaponry marketed by gun manufacturers and promoted by legislative groups with ties to the industry and addicted to campaign contributions of certain lobbying interests.

It is absolute B.S. that you need anything close to an AR-15 for hunting.
Many in the US have a mania about such weapons that has no real bearing upon the actual need for it.
