OK.
You don't like terrorists.
Me neither.
Anything else?
No, you? Did I imply that I had anything else? No. Not at all.
Actually, the crime begs for a thoughtful discussion of how to combat terrorist acts on "soft" targets that are loosely organized, if organized at all, by formal groups. That is a process that the nation's leaders and populace would be wise to engage in. As one might imagine, it is a daunting challenge demanding serious thought.
So, what are your thoughts? You posted a couple articles, but no thoughts.

Nope, have at it. It's your thread.

Actually there is very little that can be done outside of what the authorities do today. This person was born in America of parents from Afghanistan. That he got into ISIS and their sharia law which hates gays is likely part of the provocation. There is a fine line between people that take action on their bigotry and bigots that do not.
Unfortunately, soft targets will continue to be just that. In this particular case, I would expect that known gay clubs could have extra security if patrons wanted it and if it looks like this is some looming trend then I would expect that is exactly what will happen.

A Good post.
This is a big country. It would be unrealistic to think that we could prepare every bar, nightclub, youth soccer match, high school football game for an attack by a guy with powerful weapons and some expertise. Target protection has its limits.
In the following days a more complete picture of this SOB will emerge, and I hope that something useful will come about.
Questions must be answered. Did he do anything that might have been caught and acted on before the attack?
Ho did he obtain the weapons used?

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick deletes "reap what you sow" tweet after mass shooting at LGBT club
A "reap what you sow" tweet from Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick that went out hours after approximately 50 people were killed at a Florida LGBT nightclub has been deleted amid backlash.
At precisely 7 a.m. Sunday Dan Patrick tweeted a photo with the words of Galatians 6:7. The verse reads, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."
The Twitterverse circled the tweet, commenting that it was inappropriate and insensitive considering the context of the day's events. The Texas Democratic Party called for Patrick to apologize.
Okay. So shooting up a nightclub and killing scores of gay people is biblical justice, is that right?
If the same thing happened at a crowded Christian church on Sunday, what would they call it then?
And if one truly does reap what one sows, shouldn't Ba'Al be pounding a cactus branch up Dan Patrick's butt right now?

So, this guy walks into a gun shop and says: "Let me look at an AR-15. Yeah, I like it. I'll take it."

I stopped reading after the first sentence.
People are dead.
Can't anyone just report the news without climbing atop a stack of bodies to crow about political viewpoints?

Yeah, I can.
What I want to see is for us to take some steps to proactively address these issues, rather than waiting until these incredibly violent and tragic acts take place, and then react with nothing but talk.
Maybe you should have read the article prior to passing judgement.
That's what I'd like to see.
How about you?

That comment was directed at the authors Ron, not at you.
And yes, I would like to see something proactive.
But when an article starts with:
=20px"The NRA — and their gun-loving Republican cohorts — are refusing once more to stop terrorists intent on getting armed in the U.S.A."
Then they aren't reporting the news and they certainly aren't doing anything proactive.
"Gun-loving cohorts"? "Refusing to stop terrorists"?
That's name calling and hyperbole.
