Are you fed up with attack ads ?

I sure am.

What really got me on this whole thing is here in PA (and I am sure elsewhere across the country) it seems like a couple of times a day I see an attack ad against Katie McGinty  Now I really have not really taken the time to look at each candidates detail positions, BUT I am sick and tired of tired of third party groups attack ads. They NEVER say anything constructive about their candidate . It is all negative. I know we had a topic about behavior in politics and how bad it is, but for me it is starting to have the OPPOSITE reaction.

Anyone else getting sick of it ?

BTW, I am NOT just pointing the finger at one side. BOTH sides do it.

I don't mind if a candidate attacks the other, but they BETTER tell why their position is better.

Re: Are you fed up with attack ads ?

Absolutely fed up. Again, if you have a product that you are promoting that lacks viable beneficial characteristics that fit the job, the only alternative is to attack your competitor.

Also aggravating is the fact that the attacks do not mention by name the candidate the attack ad is supporting although that person is evident in the McGinty ads. They support incumbent Pat Toomey. One has to question why a candidate would allow ads like these to air, unless he wants to remain 'above the fray' for now, however, he understands that these ads can be very effective. So, rather than rising above and denouncing the ads, the beneficial candidate remains silent (in effect approving the content of the ad) and, if questioned about the attacks will deflect responsibility.

Many of the ads attacking McGinty are the result of a super PAC out of Virginia called Freedom Partners Action Fund. This group has close ties to the Republican Party. The man in charge of allocating money to produce these ads is Thomas F. Maxwell, III. He is a longtime conservative republican operative. Much backing for the PAC comes from the Koch brothers organization that also supports Freedom Partners Action Fund Chamber of Commerce affiliate and their negative attack ads.

Once again, it all stems from the SCOTUS Citizens United decision that allows anonymous, unlimited contributions to these super PACs. The really unfortunate part is that many prospective voters don't bother fact checking these negative, misleading, and deceptive ads and then cast their vote based solely on the information contained in these 30 or 60 second hit pieces. In situations such as this, regardless of which candidate wins election, our Representative Republic is the ultimate loser.

Re: Are you fed up with attack ads ?

Isn't this all campaign ad's are anymore?

I turned my back on this crap years ago.

It's been proven effective to campaign, not on your own merit, but on the wide range of defects in your opponents.

People are too stupid or too lazy to realize what is really being said and/or find out if anything they're being told is the truth.
