Re: Trump protesters smash door, break through barriers

I didn't say they were illegal immigrants, but I have a feeling many people are going to look at the actions of the protesters and look negatively upon their actions, which might influence how they look at this subject.

Fred,

I mean actual indepenents, not someone who leans politically to the left or right.  You may not be aligned with a party, but you are a progressive who leans way left.

When I say independent, I am talking about someone who actually is a moderate voter who is likely to vote for both Republican and Democratic candidates

This incident will in no way make me more sympathetic to Trump's xenophobic ideas.
I know that my rep here is that of some type of lefty. But, I have voted for republican Presidential candidates in the past.

Re: Trump protesters smash door, break through barriers

The type of violent protests only solidifiesTrump loyalists. As far as Independent voters go I would expect they too are turned off by the violence. Now some of that violence are Trumpsters against the protesters but the vast majority are just the protesters themselves doing thing that are clearly breaking the law and do wind up looking like a gang. This type of protest actually helps Trump, but he has "pissed off" so many people and groups that he can expect (and perhaps in a way wants) this type of thing to persist thinking it helps him more than it hurts him. Even if it DOES help him, it hurts the US.

I wouldn't expect it to sway you, Goose.  You have been very clear and emphatic with your dislike of Trump.

I am talking more about the moderate people who don't follow politics closely, those who may not like everything Trump says or how he acts, but don't have an intense dislike for him.  Those that are still "on the fence" about him.

If these type protests continue and possibly intensify, I wonder how they will react.  I suspect some will be turned off by those actions and turn towards Trump

Well, you got me there. If Jesus Christ himself urged me to vote for Trump, I think I'd stay home with the flu on election day.
As for the other voters that you describe, hey who knows. I'd like to think that they wouldn't condemn an entire group of people for the actions of a few.

True.
These violent incidents are oxygen to the Trump loyalists. Something peculiar about american politics. Some groups just love to imagine that they are under siege, or are victims.

True independents, might get turned off and stay home. The violence cuts both ways. If this incident drives some voters towards Trump, is it not reasonable that scenes of a Trump supporter sucker punching a black man would drive people towards Clinton?

Re: Trump protesters smash door, break through barriers

Yes, if Trump supporters start acting violently as well on a regular basis, that could drive some people to Clinton.

However, at this point we haven't seen evidence of pre-planned protests and violence being conducted by a large group of Trump supporters.  But we have seen numerous examples of that by Trump protesters.

Re: Trump protesters smash door, break through barriers

Trump is holding a rally in Anaheim today and the police have warned the anti-Trump protesters to peacefully  protest with-in the confines of the law or face swift enforcement action. It needs to be very clear they have a total and complete right to peacefully protest! Violent/unlawful thug behavior won't be allowed.

Crowds were beginning to gather Wednesday for a Donald Trump rally in Anaheim as police warned of "decisive action" if protests turn violent.

I hope the protesters behave?

If Trump were elected President is there any way he can smooth over the divides that have created these visceral reactions to him ?  My guess is NOT.

Well, it may not be planned, but we have seen examples of very ugly behavior by Trump supporters.
I think that it is just as likely to hurt Trump as these protests are to help him.
