Bernie Sanders supporters sue to have California's voter registration

Bernie is not giving up. He will fight till the convention!

Bernie Sanders supporters sue to have California's voter registration extended until election day

http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-ca-bernie-sanders-supporters-lawsuit-california-voter-confusion-20160522-snap-story.html

A federal lawsuit alleging widespread confusion over California's presidential primary rules asks that voter registration be extended past Monday's deadline until the day of the state's primary election on June 7."Mistakes are being made," said William Simpich, an Oakland civil rights attorney who filed the lawsuit Friday.

At issue is whether voters understand the rules for the presidential primary, which differ from those governing other elections in California.Unlike statewide primaries — where voters now choose any candidate, no matter the political party — the presidential contests are controlled by the parties themselves. Democrats have opened up their primary between Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to voters that have no political affiliation, known in California as having "no party preference."But the lawsuit alleges elections officials in some of California's 58 counties aren't making that clear to these unaffiliated voters."There's mass confusion," Simpich said in an interview on Saturday night. "This is a situation that really shouts out for some uniformity."

Simpich said a judge should require state elections officials to conduct a broad public awareness campaign about the voting rules before May 31, the deadline for requesting a ballot by mail. And to ensure unregistered Californians aren't disenfranchised in the presidential contest, the lawsuit asks voter registration be extended from its deadline on Monday until June 7, the day of the election.

Bernie's not going to get the nomination, I realize that.  But, his presence has been a positive force for the D-tribe.  He's brought to the forefront some important issues that have been ignored or swept under the rug far too long and secondly, he's engaged a younger generation in the political process.  It's the younger generation that will inherit what we've done.

It's only a positive if Bernie stops attacking Hillary's character

It's full speed ahead for Sanders.

Bernie Sanders is stirring things up in the homestretch of the Democratic presidential primary. The Vermont Independent is threatening to take his challenge against Hillary Clinton, whom he described over the weekend as the “lesser of two evils” compared to Donald Trump, all the way to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

He’s supporting Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s primary challenger in Florida, making his fight with the Democratic National Committee chairwoman personal.

On the legislative front, Sanders is intensifying his opposition to a Puerto Rico debt relief deal backed by Clinton, President Obama, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and even Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), one of Sanders’s own supporters on Capitol Hill.

The multifronted fight is sparking worries among Democrats, who see Trump as winning time to unify the GOP as their own party remains engaged in internal war.Democrats also see risks for Sanders; they warn the senator is undermining his credibility and influence going forward by arguing the system has turned against him.“It’s a shame what’s happening now because Bernie Sanders is undermining the brand he was trying so hard to build,” said Cornell Belcher, who served as Obama’s pollster in 2008 and 2012 and has remained neutral in this year’s primary.“When Bernie Sanders said the game is rigged because he’s not winning it and he’s going to go all the way to the convention and be the nominee, he’s falling into what everyone hates about politicians and politics,” Belcher added. “You’re opening the door to contention and fighting and people in rebellion because the process is illegitimate. That’s almost unforgivable.”A spokesman for the Sanders campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Good.  We might add that her challenger's views are more closely aligned with his so it makes sense and not simply personal.

"Curioeser and curiiouser"

I'm beginning to think this whole campaign is being staged as a massive promotion for Through the Looking Glass.

At this point ..... very true.

I am getting a little tired of this. ALL the candidates knew the rules of the game.

It comes off, to me at least, as personal and petty.
Bernie, you are losing your halo.

Re: Bernie Sanders supporters sue to have California's voter registration

I can understand how it looks, but I see a bigger picture here.  First, Wasserman Schultz was Clinton's campaign manager in 2008, and that in itself seems fishy right from the start.  Secondly, Sanders and to some extent even Trump, brought to light the goofiness of having 50 states organize their own rules for voting in the primaries.

If nothing else I hope it leads to some standardization of the entire process throughout the nation.
