It is a problem with both, the media for constantly presenting it and the people for consuming this and not demanding a more serious discussion from its politicians.

IMHO, I think it is more the people's problem. There are plenty of avenues out there to get the candidates positions and verify what they are claiming. In general I don't think the bulk of the population really wants to spend the time to research candidates. Overall I believe the press has done an adequate job. Now, the primaries at least on the GOP side have just been a pissing contest (and that is what the press has reported) and up until recently the Democrat side has had good debates and exchanges, but even they are retreating from that slightly. It is really amazing to me as a Republican, how many of their followers really look past the bravado to get details (in most cases there are none at least from our hallowed front runner, Mr Trump)

Agree wholeheartedly with Tennyson. Of all the people I know in the York area and am in touch frequently only two still receive a daily newspaper and I'm one of them. I know of several people around here who rely solely on Faux News for their information and this is the few who ever watch any newscasts. People are just not interested enough for the details of an election. They know from day one who will be their candidate and for whom they will vote.

Count me as one of the Luddites who almost never watches a TV newscast unless "forced" to in a waiting room, who still subscribes to the broadsheet home-delivered York Daily Record; but who browses a number of news sites throughout the day; chiefly the York Newspapers and Pennlive for State Capitol news.

Just listened to the Today show this AM and one of the big stories is the "Dysfunction of the GOP". Now some may think that this bypasses addressing real issues, but it IS the big story on the political horizon. Whether Trump can (or wants to) unify the GOP IS a big deal. And yes, they have paid a LOT of attention to Mr Trump's antics, BUT there has not been too much else to cover when it comes to him.
The press cannot FORCE people like Mr Trump to address details (although they have tried).
