Protests rage outside Trump rally in Orange County; 17 arrested

Like Chicago? They don't want Trump to speak.....  Peaceful protest is their right. But this thuggery is criminal behavior. Blocking roadways and assaulting people.

Hundreds of demonstrators filled the street outside the Orange County amphitheater where Donald Trump held a rally Thursday night, stomping on cars, hurling rocks at motorists and forcefully declaring their opposition to the Republican presidential candidate.Traffic came to a halt as a boisterous crowd walked in the roadway, some waving American and Mexican flags.

Protesters smashed a window on at least one police cruiser, punctured the tires of a police sport utility vehicle, and at one point tried to flip a police car."Dump the Trump," said one sign. Another protester scrawled anti-Trump messages onto Costa Mesa police cruisers."I'm protesting because I want equal rights for everybody, and I want peaceful protest," said 19-year-old Daniel Lujan, one of hundreds in a crowd that appeared to be mostly Latinos in their late teens and 20s. "I knew this was going to happen," Lujan added. "It was going to be a riot. He deserves what he gets."

Video footage showed some anti-Trump demonstrators hurling debris at a passing pickup. One group of protesters carried benches and blocked the entrance to the 55 Freeway along Newport Boulevard, with some tossing rocks at motorists near the on-ramp.

Costa Mesa police confirmed that a total of 17 people -- 10 males and 7 females -- were arrested on suspicion of unlawful assembly. Details on the ages and names of those arrested were not released.

I was afraid this sort of thing was going to happen.

Expect more.  This election cycle will be marred by violence.

In a democratic society, a growing number of people will begin to recognize the result and dangers of electing an authoritarian leader and react to it.  We've seen that in Italy, Germany and Spain in the 20th century and anyone who has studied history would concur.

In a democratic society, people should recognize that everyone has the right to free speech, no matter how odious that speech is.

So how would you have reacted if protestors did this to Bernie and they said the reason was because a growing number of people are beginning to recognize the results and dangers of electing a socialist leader?

When do these people get to decide what speech can be heard and what can't be heard?  Attempting to deny someone that ability is very un-democratic

I would support their right and educate them that socialism is nothing to be afraid of.  I would talk to them about things like public ed., a military, police departments, fire departments, FDA, national parks, roads, bridges, sidewalks, medicare, social security, etc, are socialist programs.  I would offer the same opportunity for authoritarians to do the same and explain why their position is a better alternative.
