Are Women Human?

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Attempting to repair some of the fallout from his recent remarks about women, Donald Trump said on Sunday that the decision of whether women should be considered humans should be left to the states.

“I wouldn’t want to tell Texas whether women are humans, for example,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“They obviously have some very strong opinions about that.”

When asked point-blank whether he considered women humans, the billionaire responded, “It should be a case-by-case thing.”

Trump also blasted the media for applying what he called a “double standard” to his remarks about women. “I can call a woman a pig and it’s totally taken out of context,” he said.

Trump’s latest comments drew a strong rebuke from his chief rival, Senator Ted Cruz, on the campaign trail in Wisconsin. “Once again, Donald has utterly failed to find a subtle way to express the Republican Party’s anti-woman views,” he said.

... the Republican Party's anti-woman views."  Do the Reps really have such a policy?  For real?

Ha!  Well, flowergirl, it's Andy Borowitz.  He writes satirical pieces for the New Yorker.  But, sometimes good satire exposes some quirky things that pull back the curtain.  Think back on some of Jon Stewart's work on Comedy Central.

Re: Are Women Human?

There is always some level of accuracy in what Borowitz writes. Pretty much the same with SNL skits. They use an exaggerated version many times to poke both fun and attention to some particular topical item.

Re: Are Women Human?

Interestingly enough, the overall question of the Catholic Bishop's Conference in the year 431 (the same folks who brought you the question "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin") was "Are Women Human?"

The 'logic' is this:  God made Adam out of mud.  God made Eve out of Adam.  Therefore God did not have to invest Eve with a soul since she was made from something that was already alive.  Since humans are the only creatures to have souls, Eve was clearly not human so neither were any other women.

They carefully overlooked the fact that every single 'human' on earth is from Eve's line.  If her daughters don't have souls, why would her sons?

In the end it was determined women were, in fact, human...by one vote.

I'm not 100% sure this story is accurate since records from The Dark Ages were shaky at best but this was presented during a comparative religion class in college.

Re: Are Women Human?

There you go again, CT .............. thinking too much about the logic behind some religious doctrine and thought and trying to inject logical questions and challenges to a belief system.

I like to read up on things that are new to me. When I tried to find anything about the Catholic Bishop's Conference in the year 431  I found nothing. Wonder where you can point me to.

I'm striking out too Tennyson.

As I said, this was presented as a minor topic in a college class twenty years ago.  The professor isn't teaching anymore so I wasn't able to dig up the source.

Probably likely the context of human and women was because the 431 Council had as one of its big discussions was that Mary being a human should her name reflect being the Mother of God vs the Mother of Christ. There were huge divides over this one issue.

The history of the 431 Councils also detailed a wide political chasm in the Church itself.
