It was a different time for Brazil when it was awarded the Summer Olympics for 2016. Today Brazil is in a political flux as well as a recession that has the country heaped with protests and violence. Not a good backdrop for the upcoming Olympics and the people (contestants and spectators) that are planning to venture there. Add to this the problematic Zika virus and besides being dangerous, it is highly likely that at least the spectators will stay home and watch on TV vs going there which will be one more hit for its economy and the Olympics itself.

Tickets to the 2016 Olympics aren't selling, and Brazil is scrambling to boost demand
A perfect storm of bad news for the Summer Olympics.
