Bald eagle nest cam update: First egg of 2016 laid

I thought I would go ahead and start a new thread for the new eagle egg (2016) that was just laid.
The new camera set up is great and now has sound. Here is to many hours of watching our new nesting Eagles!

Although the live-stream video from the bald eagle nest near Hanover, York County, is down, apparently from heavy traffic, posters on the Hanover, PA Eagle Cam group on Facebook report that the female eagle laid her first egg of 2016 at 3:13 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.

The female at the Hanover nest laid her eggs on Feb. 14 and 17 last year. They hatched on March 24 and 25. The eaglets fledged around June 22.

What is your guess when the egg or eggs will hatch?

I clicked on the web site and then minimized the page but you could hear the sounds. Really neat to hear the eagle calls/sounds. Not sure what you call the sounds they make?

Looked quickly and it is call.

For such a powerful bird, the Bald Eagle emits surprisingly weak-sounding calls—usually a series of high-pitched whistling or piping notes.

2nd egg arrives!

Around 4:15 Sunday, the couple's second egg was spotted on the Pennsylvania Game Commission camera.
What's next? Hatching. (And a lot of waiting.)

Checked in to see how Mom eagle was doing with the high winds hitting our area today.
Sounds like a train coming down the track and the tree is swaying back and forth.
Would make you sea sick after a few minutes. The nest seems to be holding well.

Join us on egg watch! Hanover, Pa. Eagle Nest Cam

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has live streamed a bald eagle nest for three years in a row. The eggs in the Hanover, Pa. nest were laid on February 18 and 21. Both male and female bald eagles incubate the eggs until the eggs hatch after approximately 35 days. Live stream viewers are invited to join the Game Commission in awaiting the likely hatch of the eggs next week.

Last year, nearly 1.5 million tuned in as a pair of adults successfully raised a pair of eaglets that fledged from the nest in late June to set out on their own.

Not only will the pair of high-definition cameras installed this year provide different angles of the nesting birds and – hopefully – their young, infrared technology will provide images 24 hours a day, and microphones within the units will capture all of the accompanying sounds.

Game Commission Executive Director R. Matthew Hough said the opportunity to look in on the nest in real time, not knowing how the story will end or what might happen next, is some of what makes the Eagle Cam so fascinating to watch.

“Over the past two years, the reaction to the Game Commission’s Eagle Cam has been truly amazing,” Hough said. “Not only do an astonishing number of people tune in, not only are there viewers in just about every country on the planet, but so many of them watch with such dedication. They’ll look in every day for as long as they can, spending countless hours enthralled by the goings-on within the nest.

“It’s amazing, but it’s easy to understand, too,” Hough said. “You just don’t get the opportunity to see eagles like this just anywhere. And I’m crossing my fingers for another successful nesting attempt captured on camera.”

Re: Bald eagle nest cam update: First egg of 2016 laid

Looks like we are very close to the first egg hatching sometime soon. Mom was up adjusting the eggs and it looked to me there was a very small opening in one egg? Very hard to tell specially because the quality of the video was going in and out and Mom in the way. But the biggest clue is a new fish in the nest.

Right now the wind is wicked... blowing very hard.

Mom is feeding the first new eaglet! A  round fuzz ball.
No sign of the other egg cracking yet.
