HARRISBURG - Democrat and former Navy Vice Admiral Joe Sestak says he'll seek a rematch with U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey in the 2016 election.Sestak said in a campaign email that he'll make the announcement Wednesday at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.Sestak ran for the office in 2010 and lost narrowly in the general election to Toomey. Sestak had already beaten then-U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter in the primary after Specter switched his party affiliation from Republican.

It will be nice to see a competitive race in the area. Too many are not. We need good candidates running on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Isn't that the truth.
I've gotten very weary of campaigns that consist of nothing but reasons why you shouldn't vote for the other guy.
Telling me that you suck less than your opponent isn't a ringing endorsement.

Great. And that was gonna be my strategy to run on in 2016.
Damn.

Any early handicapping?
What do Toomey's approval numbers look like?
Will it be a race that turns on Toomey's record, and PA issues, or will it be a momentum race that mirrors whatever dynamic the Presidential race develops?

This article sums it up pretty good.
Toomey has been very low profile, so that leaves him vulnerable to a presidential-year election swing, especially in a democratic state like PA. In my opinion, he has been more moderate than I thought, he hasn't been a tea party conservative. At this time, based on his record, I would vote to re-elect him.

According to the PoliticsPA blog, the Dem Party establishment is looking for someone to take out Sestak in the primary.
I like Sestak and would want him to be the Dem nominee against Sestak. But my guess is that the Dems want to pull in a candidate that will get the liberals excited and Sestak is far too moderate.
I would note that like Brady, I've been surprising impressed with Toomey. He is not what I thought he would have been. Fiscal minded, low key, diligent.
A little slow on constituent issues, but all in all, I would strongly consider him for another term if the Dems went too far left with thier nominee.
