IF Sanders vs Trump wind up in the general election, it will be interesting to see who would gravitate to either contender. Right now Real Clear Politics shows generally that Sanders would defeat Trump. It certainly would be a "different" general election.

That's a tough question to answer because if it ended up being Sanders vs. Trump, you'd definitely have one or two other jump in as independents or tied to a third party like the Constitution Party.
But if it was just Trump vs Sanders, I think we'd see a very small turnout and I think we'd see a President Trump even though despite his flaws, Sanders would be the far better choice.

If that were the case then we would have a choice between a statesman and a P.T.Barnum character to represent and lead the nation.

Can you imagine what our foreign relations would be like after a year with Trump?
We'd be at war with everyone.

It seems a real stretch to label any Senator an "outsider", even a maverick like Sanders.
Unless you want to apply the same label to the former junior Senator from IL who is now in the White House.
The problem with outsiders (think Scott Wagner) is that it is one thing to stand outside the sandbox throwing sand at the kids in the sandbox. It is another thing altogether to get into the sandbox after such behavior and expect the other kids to "play nice"--or even to acknowledge you.,

Or, at least, be suing them.

Yeah, but it didn't take long for Scott to jump with both feet into the sandbox and join in with the partisan sand throwing.

That race would certainly be very interesting, but highly unlikely they both make it (unless Hillary gets indicted soon).
I think it will still be very interesting if either of them become the nominee. If that is the case, it won't be your typical party coalitions because the "anti-establishment" voters they are attracting are likely to cross-over and vote for one of them. Look at Michigan, they both won the majority of voters in each primary where people said "free trade" was not a good thing for the country and cost many jobs.
