Va. will again recognize concealed-carry permits from other states

Va. will again recognize concealed-carry permits from other states

RICHMOND — Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Republican leaders will announce Friday they have reached a deal on Virginia’s gun regulations in a surprising moment of compromise on an issue that had threatened to poison the remainder of the governor’s term in office.

McAuliffe (D) agreed to legislation that says the state must recognize concealed-handgun permits from nearly all states — a reversal of Attorney General Mark R. Herring’s decision last month to sever the reciprocity rights of gun owners in 25 states. In exchange, Republicans softened their stances on issues that have long been non-starters in the GOP-controlled General Assembly. Under the deal, the state would take guns away from anyone who was under a two-year protective order for domestic-violence offenses.
And State Police would have to attend all gun shows to provide background checks for private sellers if they requested the service.

I think it's a bad idea.

Seriously guys?  This actually sends like a compromise all sides should be pretty happy with.

Gun rights activists are getting restored concealed-carry permit access for out of state visitors when they come to Virginia.  If another state approved someone for concealed carry, that means they were vetted.

In return, guns are taken away from someone who has a PFA against them and more background checks will be run at gun shows.

Sounds like a win-win compromise to me.  We need more of this where each side gets something reasonable.

I'm not happy with it.
Seriously.

Don't see it as a "win win" at all.
Sorry

That's a "win win"?
You cannot be serious.

We need a NATIONAL policy when it comes to stuff like this.  Period.

The reciprocity rights of gun owners for 25 states have been in effect for years.
So actually there is no change occurring now. They were going to revoke the
agreements with the other states. That will not take place now.
People with LTCF are vetted thru local, state and federal checks.

Quite true.
At this point the responsible states are at the mercy of the less responsible states

Yes, we're all aware of that.
It's in the article.
How does this refute the opinion that it's a bad idea?
