Re: Trump's staying power

I think the biggest reason that Trump is still leading in the polls is that he gets so much free publicity from the media.  The media tries to bring him down every chance that they get, but as they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity, and Trump gets it in spades, for free.  If they would have ignored him, he would have gone away by now.

You may be right, but we live in a 'celebrity worship' culture, so it makes perfect sense to the media folks.  If one of the Kardashians threw their hat in the ring, the same thing would have happened and would probably be leading some political poll.

Re: Trump's staying power

Good posts.
I can tell you that Morning Joe, on MSNBC decided that Trump was ratings gold over the summer and had him either on the show or calling in every morning.

But, it's laughable to blame the rise of Trump on Obama.

That's the catch 22.  If the media would ignore Trump, he would likely go away, but the media needs ratings, and Trump is a gold mine.  I can even speak on a personal level, I watched the republican debates for the first time ever this year (I always wait until the republican vs. democrat debates to start watching) only because Trump was in them.  I don't like the guy really, but I just had to see what he would say next.

Here's something that may sorta blow your mind......

Donald Trump’s Strongest Supporters: A Certain Kind of Democrat

To be fair, there are a number of caveats in the article, but also some striking coincidences. Enjoy.

Re: Trump's staying power

Fascinating read, Lager. I had no idea that Trump's support had such a geographic pattern.

Re: Trump's staying power

I am reading Jon Meacham's biography of George H. W. Bush.
His father, Prescott Bush, was a US Senator during the infamous red-baiting reign of terror of Joe McCarthy.

Prescott Bush wrote this about Joe McCarthy, and it reminded me of the Trump phenomena.
"McCarthy has caused dangerous divisions among the American people because of his attitude, and the attitude he has encouraged among his followers, that there can be no honest differences of opinion with him. Either you must follow Senator McCarthy blindly, not daring to express any doubts or disagreements about any of his actions, or in his eyes you must be a communist, a communist sympathizer, or a fool who has been duped by the communist line."

Re: Trump's staying power

Thanks Lager...
I think you talked about Trump and turn out, found the same concerns in the article.

And then this:
Mr. Trump’s best state is West Virginia, followed by New York. Eight of Mr. Trump’s 10 best congressional districts are in New York, including several on Long Island. North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana and South Carolina follow.
New York?
