Florida mother shoots and killed daughter she mistook for intruder
Published December 31, 2015 FoxNews.com
A woman visiting her mother and stepfather in central Florida for the holidays was shot and killed by her mother late Tuesday after she mistook the victim for an intruder, police said.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that a 27-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the shooting in St. Cloud, approximately 25 miles southeast of Orlando.
St. Cloud police Sgt. Denise Roberts said Wednesday that the 45-year-old mother was asleep when she heard someone enter her home shortly before midnight Tuesday. The mother told police she heard footsteps approaching quickly so she fired a single shot.
Roberts said the daughter had been visiting from North Carolina and didn't live in the home.
St. Cloud police officials said the mother is a 911 dispatcher for Osceola County and her husband is a St. Cloud police corporal. Authorities have asked reporters not to identify the family members because of the husband's past work as an undercover narcotics officer.
Detectives were investigating the case but say the mother's story matches the evidence so far.
"At this time, the incident appears to be an accidental shooting," the news release said.
The state attorney's office will review the shooting to decide whether charges should be filed after the St. Cloud Police Department has completed its investigation.
Because the shooter wasn't a law enforcement officer, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will not be investigating.

Maybe, just maybe not everyone is cut out to own a gun.
You know, studies show that a gun in the house is many more times likely to be used against a family member than an intruder.

Not sure what the post means?
Is it that if you are a firearms owner and you don’t follow proper procedures and
protocols that an extremely terrible outcome could happen? Like shooting someone
in your family?
Firearms are not toys to be played with. Each person makes a choice to own a firearm.
There are absolute do’s and don’ts. If you violate that then there is going to be a giant
consequence.
If the action is a criminal one then that person, the person who made the bad choice should be the one to pay the price for their action. Not a whole class of people who had nothing to do with the criminal or bad choice made.
Every time some mad man goes on a killing spree the whole class is attacked.
It makes absolutely no sense. And the things that are proposed by the anti-gun folks would not have stop the event. We must do X but X would not have stopped the event!

Not sure what that post means.
Gun owners seem to feel victimized.
Hard to see how as they get everything their way

Without getting involved in conversations of gun handling, gun control or gun ownership, this was a tragic accident that need not happen. Americans seem to have this mentality of shoot first, then.....

So gun owners get everything their way! Funny stuff.
I will say that no group has a better organization to protect the 2nd amendment then the NRA and their 5 million+ paying members.
The anti's have tried to demonize them but have failed on every level. There will not be any Federal gun control thru congress through the end of 2016. Of course Obama will try a pen and phone approach an illegal executive order.
All he will do is fire up the base and cause gun sales to soar.
Guess he is just going to get more frustrated by the end of his term!
"President Obama says the biggest frustration of his tenure is the lack of new gun control laws."

Strange use of the emoticon.
Frustration with the epidemic of mass killings is funny to you?
