It's legal to open-carry in Pennsylvania without a license, always has been, with the exception of Philadelphia, where it is legal, but you need a license. I can't remember the last time I saw anyone open-carrying in PA, who wasn't an on-duty cop or a criminal. Maybe 30 years ago?
I'm surprised our law in PA on open-carry is more lax than Texas' law.

How do business owners feel about it? I mean if you owned a tavern, pub, or restaurant, do you think some people would avoid your establishment if several people walked in or were sitting around at the bar with handguns? I don't think it would be good for business if it were my place.
Taking their jackets off is one thing, but I'd draw the line at taking their pants off.Dressed or otherwise if I walk into a business and see people walking or sitting with pistols or other guns showing and I do not see a police badge I'm outa there to never return. People today are just too nutty to be carrying guns around in public.
Flowergirl, you don't know it because people carry concealed but if you are out in public there are people who carry everywhere. They are not a threat to you.
Lancaster County has around 35,000 residents with permits to carry concealed firearms. The state has around 870,000. I looked for York county but could not find their number but I think it's around 50,000. But I could be wrong with that number but there are a lot. The point is a person with a LTCF is very unlikely to be a threat.

Common makes good point and so does flowergirl. My issue has been and always will be the manufacture, distribution, and the marketing of weapons designed primarily for military use.

CS--my post says "see people sitting or walking." I'm aware of the concealed weapons.
Fred--I'll never understand why people can walk into a shop or gun show and freely purchase such weapons. OR--why they are available to be bought. OR--manufactured for non-military/police use.

Fred, What is a "military" weapon? A fully automatic weapon? or a semi automatic?
Do you know that semi-auto rifles are rarely used in crimes? Something like 1 to 3% of gun crime? But people what to ban them as this would fix the problem of gang violence in the city's.
So we have a AR (Armalite Rifle) rifle which is a semi-auto rifle that has cosmetic features that people then want to call that a military weapon? One trigger pull one shot. But it looks scary so lets ban it.
"Assault weapons," is a "political term created by California anti-gun legislators to ban some semi-automatic rifles there in the 1980s.
Currently there are million's of AR rifles in private ownership across the country.

I am not sure what sitting or walking has to do with it?
Most places you go there is probably someone with a LTCF who has a firearm and that is not a threat to you.
The "such weapon" you are worried about is a semi auto rifle. It's rarely used in gun crime. Gangs in Chicago or Baltimore are not using rifles to harm people they are using pistols.
The politicians and media have made the AR rifle out to be the scary rifle and if we ban it all crime will disappear.
That is not true.

If I was in a restaurant and some guys came in carrying AR15s, or glocks, I'd be very uncomfortable.
I mean, how do I know that they are good guys?

Weren't ARs used at Sandy hook and San Bernadino, and a S&W M&P 15 used at Aurora?
Rarely used in crimes,,,,,,,,,,

Correction: Assault rifle was a term coined by Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany when he signed the contract to develop and produce the SIG 44 for use by the German military forces. He demanded that the weapon would be called "Sturmgewehr"'.
And, if a couple of people approached my house or walked into my business openly packing pistols, shotguns, or AK47's, my first reaction would be to call 911 and tell the police to hurry up and get there. Or, maybe the reaction we really want to see in this country due to the fear and paranoia perpetrated by some, I'd whip my Glock out of the drawer and shoot the intruders.
You know what they say: when hope and reason is lost in a society, fear and paranoia fill the void.

Actually they haven't. No one that I know has ever suggested that banning the AR will result in the elimination of all crime.
People have sensibly pointed out that a semi-auto rifle with a large clip makes it possible for a terrorist, criminal, or mad man to kill a large number of people much more quickly than he could with a bolt action rifle.
Sheesh, could we at least refrain from mischaracterizing the positions taken by the other side?
