Virginia to Stop Recognizing Concealed Gun Permits From 25 States
WASHINGTON — Virginia will no longer recognize concealed-handgun permits issued by 25 other states, its attorney general announced Tuesday, a stark change in a state known for its expansive gun rights.
Attorney General Mark R. Herring, a Democrat and a strong proponent of gun restrictions, used his authority under state law to bar permit-holding residents of the 25 states, which span the country from Alaska to Florida, from carrying concealed weapons in Virginia. He is revoking Virginia’s so-called reciprocity agreements with those states.
“We hear that we don’t need new gun laws, we just need to enforce the ones we have,” Mr. Herring said in a telephone interview, echoing the argument of the gun rights movement. “Well, I’m going to be enforcing the ones we have.”
Mr. Herring made the decision, his office said in a statement, after “months of research and evaluation,” including an audit of 30 states whose concealed-handgun permits have been considered valid in Virginia. All but five of them, he said, grant permits to people who would be barred from carrying concealed weapons in Virginia. He called revoking the agreements a “common-sense step.”
But gun rights advocates denounced the move, saying Mr. Herring had no evidence that suspending the reciprocity agreements would reduce crime. (In the interview, the attorney general said the state does not track how many out-of-state residents bring in concealed weapons.) Mr. Herring’s critics also said the new policy would make it harder for permit-holding Virginians to carry their weapons to other states.

The Obama administration said they would use State and local officials if they could to go after guns and gun owners and they have now!
This will do nothing to make Virgina any safer! It's a attack on lawful gun owners and nothing else.
"Mr. Herring had no evidence that suspending the reciprocity agreements would reduce crime."
There is a democratic Anti-2nd admendment Attorney General and Governor who will do what ever they can to attack legal guns and gun owners. This has ZERO to do with public safety.

It's interesting.
The state of Virginia sets requirements that it's citizens must meet in order to qualify for a permit.
It is their right to do so.
Why on earth should Virginia honor permits from other states, in Virginia, if the person doesn't meet the Virginia requirement?
Why should a Virginia resident be held to a different standard than a nonresident while carrying in the state of Virgina?
Seems like a double standard, and an infringement on that states' rights thingy that conservatives are so fond of.

Anybody want to field that question?

I don't get the fuss. Virginia establishes rules and guidelines to vet people who apply for a conceal and carry permit. Some other state's rules and regs are more lax and don't meet Virginia's standards, so Virginia says to someone from another state, "no, you can't have that here." Big deal. No need to knot your knickers over this.
Reminds me when the drinking age was 18 in New York and 21 in Pennsylvania. I guess some 18 year-old from NY could argue they should be allowed to drink in Pennsylvania because they are living in a state where it's legal?
Makes no sense.

Me neither, Fred.
Don't see the nefarious plot angle to this at all. But it is standard MO reaction to anything related to guns.

As for Mr. Herring, he can’t prove that any crime has ever been committed in Virginia by an out-of-state concealed handgun permit holder, and he knows it.

Address the question. Why should residents of Virginia be held to a different standard for carrying a deadly weapon than nonresidents in the state?
