Syrian Refugees Greeted by Justin Trudeau in Canada

Syrian Refugees Greeted by Justin Trudeau in Canada

OTTAWA — Canada welcomed 163 Syrian refugees under its new accelerated entry program late Thursday night, the first of 25,000 the country has promised to take in by March.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and a battery of politicians from across the political spectrum were on hand at the Toronto airport to greet the refugees.

“You are home,” Mr. Trudeau said to the first passengers to disembark after a 16-hour flight from Beirut on a Canadian military aircraft. “You’re safe at home now.” The premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne, gave them winter coats.

Under a plan announced by Mr. Trudeau’s new government, a series of flights will bring 10,000 Syrian refugees into Canada by the end of this month and a total of at least 25,000 before March.

While opposition parties, including the recently defeated Conservatives, have quibbled over timing and details, there has been no significant opposition to the overall aim of accepting the Syrians. And Mr. Trudeau was joined by his opposition critics in the welcoming party.

Yes, American exceptionalism exists.
You just have to gaze northward to see it.

Canada To Exclude Single Men From Syrian Refugee PlanThe decision follows heightened security concerns.

Canada is not taking any chances when it comes to its new influx of Syrian refugees. While the country is preparing to accept about 25,000 migrants by the end of the year, security concerns have convinced officials they should leave out a key demographic: single males.

It is estimated that 64,600 Syrians immigrated to the United States between 1961 and 2000.

According to the United States 2000 Census, there were 142,897 Americans of Syrian ancestry, about 12% of the Arab population in the United States.

And Syrian immigration patterns in the fifty years prior to the civil war and refugee crisis are relevant to the discussion in what way?

Yes, and one of them gave birth to Steve Jobs, I believe. Anyhow,  I wonder how many of those 142,897 Americans of Syrian decent carried out a terrorist attack?  Anyone know?

I'm confused. Are you suggesting that the United States of America, the greatest nation on earth, adopt the morality of and conduct it's affairs like some repressive monarchy in the Gulf.?
You cannot be serious.

I don't know what Syrian immigrants from the 60s have to do with the thread.

Perhaps CS will enlighten us.
