Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

It seems the dems are coming unhinged? First Reid's vile rant on the senate floor that half of the country are racists haters and now they (Democrat.com Unity) are trying to get Trump Bumped from the cable news programs! They are mad at MSMBC and CNN? They are scared of Trump so this is what you get from them, The dem dog whistle: Racist,Islamophobic, Hateful, Bullying.
They do say he has an 1st amendment right. Nice of them, just stop the extra coverage of him.

A complete meltdown in progress? Guess we will see?

Here is a taste of an e-mail they sent:

From Democrats.com Unity
Dear Activist,MSNBC and CNN should be covering Trump as a candidate, but should not be giving him a near 24/7 national platform to promote his racist and Islamophobic views.Their obsession with Donald Trump has gone too far. By relentlessly chasing ratings and devoting massive airtime to Trump interviews and live coverage of his speeches, MSNBC and CNN are providing Trump with free publicity that is fueling his hateful campaign. Thanks for all you do!Bob Fertik

Dear Friend,Within hours of Donald Trump proposing a ban on all Muslims entering the United States, both MSNBC and CNN interrupted their evening programming to broadcast live footage from a Trump campaign rally in South Carolina.

MSNBC took it a step further, quickly announcing that Trump would appear live on its Morning Joe program the next morning, for the second time in just eight days. The media's obsession with Donald Trump has gone too far. By relentlessly chasing ratings and devoting massive airtime to Donald Trump interviews and live coverage of his speeches, MSNBC and CNN are providing Trump with free publicity that is fueling his campaign.

MSNBC and CNN should be covering Trump as a candidate, but should not be giving him a near 24/7 national platform to promote his racist and Islamophobic views.Tell MSNBC and CNN: Stop promoting Donald Trump's racist presidential campaign. Click here to sign the petition. The media's obsession with Donald Trump has real consequences for our Democracy.

Desperate for ratings, the cable news networks have decided to broadcast nearly-continuous coverage of Donald Trump's campaign at the expense of giving real issues the coverage they deserve. As policy fights play out in the halls of power in Washington, DC, large swaths of the electorate remain uninformed, with cable news coverage largely limited to live coverage of Trump campaign rallies and shouting matches between pundits over whether Trump's latest racist proposal will help or hurt him among Republican primary voters.

We aren't suggesting that MSNBC and CNN should ignore Donald Trump entirely, but the near-continuous coverage of recent weeks has got to stop. And when they do cover Trump, they should contextualize their coverage by pointing out his long history of racism, Islamophobia and hate. As Arianna Huffington promised in a piece this week, the Huffington Post will continue covering Trump's campaign, but at the same time will "constantly remind the public of what he stands for":

His enthusiasm for creating a database of all Muslims in the United States.

His ongoing lies about Muslims in New Jersey celebrating 9/11.

His status as birther-in-chief, cynically sowing doubt about President Obama's legitimacy as the duly elected President of the United States.

His misogyny -- here's just one HuffPost piece on this, but there's no shortage of these.

His xenophobia and scapegoating of immigrants, including his lies about Mexican immigrants and his ardent desire to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
Donald Trump absolutely has a First Amendment right to say whatever he wants, no matter how hateful. And the news media should cover him as a leading presidential candidate. But it's irresponsible and dangerous for MSNBC and CNN to provide Trump with a free national platform to bolster his campaign fueled by bigotry and racism.Join us in telling MSNBC and CNN that their viewers deserve better than wall-to-wall, uncritical coverage of Donald Trump's racist campaign.Tell MSNBC and CNN: Stop promoting Donald Trump's racist presidential campaign.

Thanks for everything you do.Josh Nelson, Campaign Manager

Re: Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

Meltdown?
What an odd assessment.
Consider an alternate theory. People are outraged at Trump's xenophobia, his hateful rhetoric and neo-fascism.

I don't think the story is the reaction to Trump's hate fueled ascent.
No, the story is Trump's hate fueled ascent.

BTW, Reid never said that half of the country are racists. Please be accurate.

Re: Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

Just found this.
It has the same dog whistles: prejudice, dangerous, paranoia, reality television sideshow, extreme terms beliefs. To Democrats, Donald Trump Is No Longer a Laughing MatterRead the full story here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/11/us/politics/to-democrats-donald-trump-is-no-longer-a-laughing-
matter.html?_r=0WATERLOO, Iowa — Until Monday, when Donald J. Trump proposed a ban on Muslims entering the United States, Hillary Clinton could hardly keep herself from laughing at the mention of his name. “I’m sorry, I can’t help it,” she told ABC News on Sunday, letting out a giggle that made advisers squirm. She is no longer laughing.

From a Clinton support (Hint she must be a racist)
"Bennie Stickley, a 75-year-old in Gilbertville, Iowa, who retired from a John Deere factory, said he was supporting Mrs. Clinton but agrees with Mr. Trump’s proposal to bar Muslims. “I’m for him on that,” he said. “We shouldn’t be letting those people into the country,” he added."

But since Mr. Trump’s response to the Dec. 2 terrorist attack in San Bernardino, Calif., Mrs. Clinton and her campaign, confounded by his continued strength in the polls, have had to rethink how they handle Mr. Trump and what his candidacy, and the anger in the electorate that has fueled it, means for her chances in 2016.

Re: Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

I don't think this fits the definition of "dog whistle" terms.
I think that Dems are quite clearly and openly stating what they think of this guy, and the people who support him.

It's odd that you are trying to make the reaction to Trump THE story, rather than Trump and his foolish remarks.

"those people"

Talk about 'dog whistle' terminology.

I guess Mr. Stickley considers anyone that is different from him as 'those people'.

That's extolling the American exceptionalism that all the candidates are talking about, right?

Re: Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

Common what is unacceptable, or a "meltdown" about criticizing Donald Trump for these things

I think that it's entirely proper, and rational to criticize Trump for these things.
I would also add to the list Trump's repeating the urban myth that there are areas of Paris and London that "are so radicalized that the police won't even go in there".

Would you consider it a "meltdown" to criticize and fact check Hillary Clinton?

Re: Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

I hope actually Trump gets the nomination, but if he doesn't I hope he does run as a third party candidate.

To be honest, I doubt if the RNC will let him be their candidate, and I think they can persuade him not to run as a third party candidate, too.

He's had an interesting run, though, and he'll make a great footnote in the history of American politics.

Re: Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

On the one hand, I am appalled that so many Republicans find this man appealing.
On the other, I'm delighted at the prospects for 2016 if this GOP civil war continues.

Re: Melt Down? Scared of Trump!

Did anyone see the video of Trump and the eagle?

I was hoping for a good mauling.  Didn't quite work out.
