President Donald Trump tweets about NFL national anthem debate that is 'alive and well again'

President Donald Trump is once again inserting himself into the culture war over protests by NFL athletes during the national anthem.

The league and the NFL Players Association issued a joint statement Thursday that said "no new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks" while both sides hold discussions to figure out how to move forward.

Trump tweeted on Friday that he "can't believe" the debate has reignited after The Associated Press reported on the Miami Dolphins formally telling players they could be punished for protesting on the field. The NFL and NFL Players Association said in a joint statement Thursday night they were halting enforcement of all anthem rules while they work out a solution.

Trump took to Twitter to critique the policy, call for action from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and suggest his own penalties.

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

This whole thing probably stems from the fact the owners and commissioner blocked his effort to buy a franchise several years ago.  He's probably still pissed about that so he's doing one of those, "Well, I'll show YOU" things.

When little kids won't  let somebody play in the sand box for one reason or another, the spurned bully looks for a way to mess up the sand box.  If I were Goodell, I'd tell him to jam it.

Have to keep the rubes fired up over something so that that forget how he took a knee to Putin.

Trump had a very bad week with the 'Is he a traitor or just incompetent' thing.

What better way to get back with the base than to dust off one of his 'greatest hits' and attack some black athletes?
