Bottom line on this raid in Yemen from my perspective:
1) Trump administration sees plan developed and rejected by the Obama administration to approve a raid on a compound that houses a medium level AQAP official.
2) Trump administration officials, very early in their administration, see this raid as their chance at an Osama bin Ladin type raid.
3) The Trump team discounts the reasons that the operation was rejected by the Obama team and gives the go ahead for the operation.
4) The operation was, apparently, telegraphed and the enemy and the U.S. Special ops forces were met with a stronger force at the compound.
5) The targeted leader was not at the compound, but several families were also housed there.
6) Unfortunate incidents, like the hard landing of the one Osprey further complicated the raid.
7) Along with Yemeni civilian casualties, one SEAL was KIA and at least three others were wounded.
8) To save face for a failed operation, the Trump administration claims that a lot of strategic information was garnered through this operation that can be used against AQAP and ISIS throughout the Mideast. Conveniently, this information is all classified so the American people will never be privy to that information.
I loathe the fact that a brother SEAL was killed in the operation.
I loathe the fact that the people in Washington that authorized this operation won't admit their mistakes and have the balls to use the family of the deceased Navy SEAL to legitimize this poorly planned and error filled military operation and cover up their misplaced political agenda.

Several US officials told CNN Thursday that the US is now taking action to locate and monitor hundreds of people or "contacts" found as part the intelligence retrieved during the deadly raid last month in Yemen targeting al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
Some of these people are believed to be in the West, but not in the United States.
The government is taking action to find and monitor these AQAP-linked individuals because of the threat they may pose to Europe, the officials added.
The fact that officials said they are actively pursuing leads uncovered from the raid indicates that the intelligence was indeed actionable despite some media reports to the contrary.
What makes one media report more accurate than another?
If you make yourself miserable trying to make others happy that means everyone is miserable.

I'm not sure, especially when they both come from reputable sources. The two stories do contradict each other.
Hopefully they did gain some valuable and important information from this mission.
