Report: QB Johnny Manziel Indicted for Alleged Assault of Ex-Girlfriend

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has been indicted by a Dallas County grand jury, WFAA-TV reported, citing a source in the district attorney’s office.

A formal announcement of the indictment is expected Monday, the station said. Manziel is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, in Dallas in late January.Manziel’s case was heard by a grand jury Thursday. While the grand jury typically hears only felony cases, WFAA reported that Dallas police wanted Manziel’s misdemeanor assault case heard by a grand jury to see if there was enough evidence to indict and arrest him.Crowley said Manziel hit her so hard her eardrum burst. Part of the alleged assault occurred at Hotel ZaZa in Dallas, where the pair had been the night of Jan. 29, WFAA added.

Manziel was cut by the Browns in March after two tumultuous seasons marked by inconsistent play and off-the-field headlines about his partying and drinking, including one stint in rehab.Last week, high-powered agent Drew Rosenhaus dropped Manziel as a client. He had told the troubled quarterback to seek help or he would no longer represent him. Rosenhaus, whose clientele is among the largest in the NFL, represented Manziel for only a few weeks. Rosenhaus has been an agent for 27 years, and it was the first time he’s terminated a contract with a player.In February, Manziel’s first agent, Erik Burkhardt, said he severed his ties with Manziel so he could get help.

Nike confirmed Tuesday that it no longer has an endorsement deal with Manziel.
