We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

You jogged my memory of something I did as a kid:

One day I spent most of it collecting the egg sack blobs.  I brought in my bedroom and put them in the top drawer of my dresser.  Well, you can imagine what happened next.  A couple of weeks later the little guys were crawling all over my bedroom ........... 1000's of them.  Boy, was my mom pissed!  Spent hours sucking them up with the vacuum cleaner and still didn't get 'em all.

I never did that again, but I never intentionally destroyed a praying mantis or the nests ever again.  I figured there was bad karma associated with doing that.
