Police believe stolen prescription drugs are driving the violence sweeping the city.

“There’s enough narcotics on the streets of Baltimore to keep it intoxicated for a year,” Commissioner Batts said.More than 175,000 units or doses of drugs were looted from 27 pharmacies and two methadone clinics during the April 27 riots. Almost half of those businesses haven’t even finished assessing what was stolen.

I would have thought in areas of high crime, etc. that pharmacies would have had better protection for their pharmceuticals.

If nearly half the businesses haven't completed assessing what is missing - as the article states - how can they reach any conclusions?

We live in a time in which decent and otherwise sensible people are surrendering too easily to the hectoring of morons or extremists.

The DEA confirms much of what is being reported.

The gangs targeted getting  narcotics such as oxycodone which sell for more than heroin on the street. We are only now getting the full reports on the extent of the thefts during the riots that previously were not fully disclosed. As a result drug turf wars are breaking out.
