If you love strawberries picking time is here! There is nothing liked fresh picked produce!
York County's strawberry season is ripe for the picking
Several locations started pick-your-own this past weekend
Several farms throughout the area started pick-your-own sales this past weekend as a bountiful harvest awaits hungry locals."Some of the early varieties have the best flavor," said Stan Brown, owner of Brown's Orchard in Springfield Township.
While some of the berries are a little small because of delayed spring rains, he said, the flavor is right on. He's not too worried about the size anyway, he said, as some people prefer a smaller berry. This week's weather is ideal for berry growth, Brown said. It's when temperatures start to get into the mid to upper 90s that berries grow too fast and the season ends quickly, he said.Brown suggests visitors plan to pick either in the morning or evening, but to avoid the heat of midday.
