Does anyone really think that by reassigning
the head of TSA is that anything is going to change
at the agency? They have failed test after test for years. The proposed TSA Budget for 2015 was 4.6 billion!
Yes 4.6 billion! Another wasted Federal Government program.
Homeland Security Chief Orders Changes at TSA After Failed Tests
Read the full story here:
ABC News, citing unnamed officials, reported that government investigators were able to get fake explosives and banned weapons past TSA screeners in 67 of 70 tests. In one case, an investigator set off an alarm, but TSA agents failed to discover a fake explosive taped to his back during a physical search, ABC News said.

Scrap the TSA. They've shown themselves over the past decade to be pretty useless. A 95% failure rate in detecting explosives? To me, every dollar we've spent on the TSA has been a dollar wasted.

Bid it out competitively and contract with a private company who can provide better customer service at a lower cost.
This is not the first time the TSA has been shown to fail at thier jobs as evidenced in this 2011 article
Republican Rep. John Mica of Florida, the new chairman of the House Transportation Committee, recently contacted about 200 airports to ask them to switch, reports NPR.
Congressman Mica explained his reasoning in a recent editorial:
TSA has grown from 16,500 screeners to an army approaching 67,000 personnel.... Rather than operate a huge screening force and human-resources operation, TSA must refocus and direct its mission to develop and implement the best security protocols and procedures.
TSA officials respond that the agency is allowed to fire underperforming workers on the spot, in an exception to ordinary rules for federal employees. So there is no advantage on that score to hiring private contractors. Plus, no one has also shown that the government would save money by outsourcing the TSA's screening work to private contractors.
TSA Chief John Pistole told ABC News that undercover tests have shown too many weapons getting through airport security. He said that is partly why, last November, he ordered screenings to be beefed up with enhanced pat-downs and full-body scanning machines that can see beneath a traveler's clothing. Even if airports switch to private screening, these enhanced procedures won't go away.

Scrap the TSA.
Well, I guess that would make boarding planes alot easier and reduce the clogs in airport terminals and gates.

I am always quite a bit concerned that reports like this getting widespread publication. Yes, it is a bad report for the TSA and needs to be fixed (that is what audits and tests like this are for) , but in the same sense it is a welcome report for potential terrorists and just might lead to more attempts as a result.
Am I the only one who thinks this way about keeping this at an internal level or at least more muted ?

Don't we deserve something more than the old 'well, it's better than nothing' elaborate window dressing of a contrived security apparatus hurriedly conjured up and cobbled together after the shock of 9/11?
The agents are poorly trained bullies that are only good at prodding passengers through their zig-zag maze, uttering snarky orders about shoes, belts, jewelry, bottles with liquid, and where to put you laptop (I know where I'd like to shove the laptop). You and your carry-ons are then directed into a scanning device utilizing decades old technology operated by a half asleep officer who is not sure how to interpret the images. If you're lucky, you then get directed to an area with a blue latex gloved agent for an unfriendly pat down. After that you're chastised about lagging behind and clearing your bags and bin from the conveyor. All this to ensure our safety.
Seriously, who are they kidding? The billions of dollars spent on this facade of a security operation is ludicrous. It's not worth the money, and it cannot provide any evidence of being an effective organization. It's time to put some serious thought into establishment of a real and efficient security operation run by properly trained professionals. What we have now is an ineffective, aggravating, barely better than nothing granfalloon.
