Seven Foods

If you could only cook with and eat seven foods, what would they be?

We will everyone cheat a little. Salt, pepper, spices, herbs, garlic, lemon,  and onion are available to everyone and do not count as part of the seven.

Re: Seven Foods

Very interesting, florentine, the choice of Kale.
I've only started eating it recently, and have not gone much beyond kale chips.

Please share other recipes if you would be so kind!

Re: Seven Foods

Kale can be eaten raw in a salad.  Be sure to remover the tough stems and use the tender leaves for anything raw.  It can be quite fiberous and irritating to the digestive track.

You can use it in soups or substitute kale for spinach in many recipes.  You can make Kale Pesto.

It can be eat cooked, like the kale chips or in this favorite recipe of mine:

SAUTEED KALE, BROCCOLI AND TOMATOES

washed, dried and torn kale, stems removed
broccoli florets
grape tomatoes
grated Asiago cheese

Heat some olive oil in a pan, add kale, broccoli florets and tomatoes. Toss, cover and let kale wilt and florets turn bright green. Add salt and pepper and toss again. Take a block of Asiago cheese and grate a light dusting of cheese over-top.  Let melt and serve.

You can add any other veg you might like...chopped onions or yellow or red peppers.  Use a lot of kale.  More than you think you need.  It cooks down.
