THIS is Why You Have to Stop Tweeting

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA - IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!
9:20 AM - 5 Sep 2013

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
The President must get Congressional approval before attacking Syria-big mistake if he does not!
7:02 PM - 30 Aug 2013

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate.
5:39 PM - 9 Oct 2012

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
Obama must now start focusing on OUR COUNTRY, jobs, healthcare and all of our many problems. Forget Syria and make America great again!
9:19 AM - 11 Sep 2013

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
We should stop talking, stay out of Syria and other countries that hate us, rebuild our own country and make it strong and great again-USA!
1:29 AM - 13 Sep 2013

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your "powder" for another (and more important) day!
9:21 AM - 7 Sep 2013

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
Think of it, the Arab League doesn't want to get involved with Syria - but they want us to do their dirty work. How stupid!
9:58 PM - 2 Sep 2013

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
If the U.S. attacks Syria and hits the wrong targets, killing civilians, there will be worldwide hell to pay. Stay away and fix broken U.S.
9:55 PM - 2 Sep 2013

Re: THIS is Why You Have to Stop Tweeting

It's called the 1st amendment..... A citizen has a right to express their views!

And that is the point a citizen is not the president. The President has major responsibilities as the leader of the free world. It's good to see the President is able to adapt to changing threat environment. His national security team is top notch. Citizens don't have to keep the nation safe the president does.
After 8 years of a feckless foreign policy it's so good to see a president actually do what needed done.

So should the President not take action when it was called for because of  tweets years ago as a private citizen?

President Trump please keep tweeting! But I think you will. No reason to listen to the normal anti-Trump rubbish.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,”  former vice president Biden said during a campaign event in Texas on Monday. "All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”

Did someone suggest that we repeal the 1st amendment?
Did someone suggest that Trump be charged with some sort of crime for expressing himself?

Really, you waste your time in attacking arguments that no one has made.

If you have no problem with the fact that the President has a long history of going off on topics he has no expertise in, only to contradict himself, then neither do I.
I enjoy it when he makes himself look stupid, and his fans look like mindless robots.

Ah, come on. I get it, people who support President Trump are going to get defensive when he is criticized. I don't fault anyone for that. But let's get real here - we've all said things in the past that we realize, later on, were pretty dumb. Dumb because we were ignorant. We didn't have the worldview then that we have today. We've grown up a little bit. We might as well own it! I don't go around saying that my old tweets were okay because I've adapted to the changing threat environment, my old tweets were dumb and that's okay. I'd like to see President Trump come out in an interview and say that he's learned a lot as Commander-in-Chief and that his worldview is drastically different than it was even just a year ago. Own it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hold on Common. I think the attack on Syria last night was appropriate, but regardless, you have to realize that Trump's comments in 2013 and his actions now is striking.

If you were a supporter of Trump, you had to believe that his foreign policy was one of not intervening in situations that didn't directly affect the United States.

So I think a Trump supporter would have to feel betrayed now that we've ratcheted up our military stance in the middle east and are directly challenging Russia. And for what? I mean,Donald Trump's policies prevented a muslim child from entering the United States for a life saving heart surgery. I guess what I am saying is did President Trump shoot missiles at Syria because he felt bad about the chemical weapon attack by Assad that gassed his people, or because he has a thoughtful foreign policy that is a 180 degrees from where it was just three years ago?

If you (or anyone) are going to just go along with Trump's actions simply because he's Donald Trump, just admit it.

I think you're going to see a lot of different United States of America over the next three, four, or eight years. - President Donald J. Trump

CONTRADICTION:

logical incongruity
a situation in which inherent factors, actions, or propositions are inconsistent or contrary to one another

The president of the U.S. should not be constantly contradicting him/herself. It muddies the waters and clouds the intentions of the president's policies and actions. It confuses allies, enemies, other government branches, and constituents. It has nothing to do with the first amendment or expressing a point of view. The president should be concerned with establishing clear policies and developing concise plans to reasonably put those plans into action, not engage in irresponsible, juvenile messaging over social media platforms.

Everyone here who weighed in on the Missile Strike thread supported Trump's action, so I'm not sure what common was ranting about, with the "typical Anti-trump rubbish" remark.

Nevertheless we have these Tweets, some from only 3 years ago which are diametrically opposed to what Trump just did.
My point is, Trump needs to be more careful not to go off with wild judgments of others when he doesn't have the knowledge required.
If he wants to grow in his Presidency.

But, some people cannot abide any criticism of Trump.
Common, you serve the President poorly by encouraging him to Tweet juvenile, outrageous statements simply because you like him to offend the people you hate.
That is stupid. We are supposed to be citizens, not worshippers.
Think more.

That kind of sums it up nicely.

BTW, I also agree with Goose that pretty much all of us here agree that the response taken for the Asaad genocide WAS appropriate.
