Drop the hammer. Until order is restored, nothing else can happen. Her dawdling all day has allowed things to spiral out of control. Now the State Police and National Guard are coming in and the situation is only going to be intensified.
It just seems to me, at first glance, that the mayor, police chief, and city council are out of their league in being able to address this.
Totally agree.
The initial protests in Ferguson were met with overwhelming, even military styled, force. It didn't stop the later mayhem. Some argued that it even made things worse.
What do I want her to do?
Clean up the police force!

I find it very sad that I cannot recall anyone here using the term Tragedy to describe an unarmed black man being pursued, arrested and killed by police because he ran from them.
We all might pause for a moment to reflect upon the implications of this.

Ok, we could 'drop the hammer' as some of you suggest. But, Baltimore has been simmering for a long time over the issue of police brutality. The city has paid out almost 6 million dollars to victims of police brutality over the last couple of years.
Unfortunately, the media focuses on the violence associated with out-of-control protesters. The gut reaction is to counter the violence with violence ................ send in the troops! Ok, in the short term it might work, but the causes and roots of the cancer have to be addressed. It seems Baltimore was a powder keg for some time and this incident lit the fuse.
When things calm down, the people of the city will have to address the tough questions, get to the bottom of the problem and seek solutions otherwise the antagonistic relationship between the police force and the citizenry will erupt again.

It seems that we are more concerned that the protestors behave well than we are about the inciting event.
Same thing happened after the death in Staten Island

Some of us are coneerned with BOTH !
I have a niece and her soon to be husband that both work in the Inner Harbor at the aquarium and I pray that she does not get in the middle of any of this. I am sure her parents are on pins and needles as well.
Some people are critical of the mayor of Baltimore. She seems like a well reasoned person. Some have jumped on some early statemets she made, but I believe that she is doing all she can to contain the current situation and find a community solution to this whole situation. I agree with what is being done at this point. She really had no other choice as I see it. Does anyone believe there is another solution at this point ?

Sure, some are concerned with both.
I wish they'd be more vocal about it

I certainly believe the mayor is and is doing her best to deal with the situation.

Sure would be nice to know how that man got his neck broken, who is being held accountable, and how they are going keep it from happening again
