Mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Blake

Baltimore Mayor: We gave them space to destroy

In what is a pretty unbelievable admission, the Mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Blake admitted in a press conference that she gave instructions for police to protect protesters, including “those who wished to destroy,” and to give them some space.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,”  former vice president Biden said during a campaign event in Texas on Monday. "All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”

What's so unbelievable about that?
It's a very tense situation. Why up the stakes by rising to the bait of every small provocation and further  escalating the situation  with more force?
The protestors have a point. A young man had his neck broken for the 'crime' of running while black.
How many more bodies do you want?

Re: Mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Blake

So, Common, for this moment, you are the mayor of Baltimore.  What do you do?

Sadly, I would not expect an answer.

Re: Mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Blake

Just watched the Mayor Rawlings-Blake's news conference. If I was a resident of Baltimore, I wouldn't have a warm and fuzzy about her capabilites of containing the situation.

Let's hope cooler heads prevail on all sides.

What do you want her to do?  Not trying to be a wise-ass, but what would be the solution?

Re: Mayor of Baltimore Stephanie Rawlings-Blake

Evidently the Mayor's spin on the generational Police slogan "to protect and serve" is "to protect protestors--even violent protestors--and to serve notice to everyone else that you're on you're own".

Sounds like an invitation to anarchy.

Drop the hammer. Until order is restored, nothing else can happen. Her dawdling all day has allowed things to spiral out of control. Now the State Police and National Guard are coming in and the situation is only going to be intensified.

It just seems to me, at first glance, that the mayor, police chief, and city council are out of their league in being able to address this.

Her announcment  that a citywide curfew begins TOMORROW is essentially an invitation to "pillage and loot as much as you like for the next 26 hours".

About like telling an out of control toddler "if you do that again I'm going to be really, really, really mad".

Totally agree.
