Poor Diane Sawyer was just so upset and befuddled that Jenner told her he was a republican. The look on Sawyer’s face was priceless.
‘I believe in the Constitution': Bruce Jenner comes out — as a Republican
ABC News host Diane Sawyer seemed more surprised that former Olympic champion Bruce Jenner identified himself as a Republican than announcing he was a trans woman on Friday, the Huffington Post reported. The revelation came when Sawyer asked Jenner for his reaction to President Barack Obama identifying trans Americans during this year’s State of the Union address.“He actually was the first one to say the actual word transgender, I will certainly give him credit for that,” Jenner said of Obama. “But not to get political, I’ve just never been a big fan — I’m kind of more on the conservative side.”“Are you a Republican?” Sawyer asked.“Yeah, is that a bad thing?” Jenner replied. “I believe in the Constitution.”Sawyer, who noted during her report that 32 states lack laws protecting LGBT workers from job-related discrimination based on their gender and sexuality, then asked him if he thought it would be “an unsettling thing” for some conservatives. According to her, Jenner said neither major political party has “a monopoly on understanding.”She then asked if he would ask GOP House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to “champion” LGBT rights.“I would do that, yeah, in a heartbeat,” Jenner replied. “Why not? And I think they’d be very receptive to it.”
The Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative LGBT advocacy group, released a statement supporting the former Olympic decathlon champion.“Log Cabin Republicans congratulates Bruce Jenner in the tremendous courage he demonstrated tonight, being true to himself both in terms of his personal identity as well as his political identity,” the statement read. “There is a home for you in Log Cabin Republicans — as there is for all lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender conservatives and straight allies.”

Really, really tied of seeing his mug everywhere. I have no interest in his sexuality, his politics or anything about him Poor Diane Sawyer? Nonsense. Her interviews at one time were with interesting people and this one surely is not.

I flipped in and out of the Jenner interview between innings of the Phillies game. I missed the question about Jenner's political leanings, but the first thing I thought of was how and why did his political positions come up?
And then I remembered the Kurt Vonnegut quote....
“Thanks to TV and for the convenience of TV, you can only be one of two kinds of human beings, either a liberal or a conservative.”
As for the rest of the interview, I wish Jenner nothing but happiness in terms of who and what he wants to be. But let's not kid ourselves, halfway through that interview, the E! network announced a new reality show starring Jenner and following him through his transition or whatever.
So in the end, it's not about Jenner being a hero or icon for the Transgendered community, or him trying to enlighten the country or world. It's about him extending the reality show gravy train for as long as he can.
And that's sad.

Since we've dropped down the rabbit hole of caring what a "reality" TV star thinks about politics,,,
She (Sawyer) asked if he (Jenner) would ask GOP House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to “champion” LGBT rights.“I would do that, yeah, in a heartbeat,” Jenner replied. “Why not? And I think they’d be very receptive to it.”
McConnell voted NO on a bill that would have prohibited job discrimination based on sexual orientation.
McConnell voted YES on a bill to prohibit marriage between members of the same sex in federal law, and provide that no state is required to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. Define 'marriage' as 'between one man and one woman.'
McConnell voted NO on an amendment that would expand the definition of hate crimes to include gender, sexual orientation and disability.
So, I'd have to ask Jenner, why do you think that these guys would be "very receptive" to a request to champion LGBT rights?

We MAY be going down the rabbit hole, but the reason that this is getting ANY traction at all is because of your statements. I am sure the Republican party (in general) does not want to address this touchy area and many in power such as McConnel do not want to go against their very conservative base.
On the D-tribe side they are more receptive to LGBT rights but again I don't think they want to make a big deal out of it either as it is a tricky area in terms of voter support and that is the bottom line.
I knew right away this would be something the R-tribe wanted to duck.

Well, let's wait and see. What are the odds he will be invited to speak at the CPAC pep rally?

One part of the interview I caught was when they were giving some historical details around Jenner's life. I got the impression that the endorsement deals and general media spotlight dimmed in the 80's for Jenner as his time being an Olympic hero. While he wasn't in financial trouble, I certainly don't think he was living a luxurious life.
Then they started talking about him marrying the Kardashian mom and them getting along pretty well (I didn't realize how long they had been together). She acted as Jenner's manager and booked him for a lot of motivational speaking engagements. And then they hit it big when they started the reality show.
The point of all this as how it relates to Jenner's political beliefs is that I don't think he has a clue as to how Mitch McConnell or John Boehner votes or what the GOP platform is as it relates to the LGBT community.
I think Jenner likes republicans because he's sitting in a pretty high tax bracket these days and wants to keep the taxman at bay as much as possible.

Seriously? What statements have I made on this site, with its 31 registered users, that is giving this story "traction"?
What have I written that you disagree with?
