I think people are going off the deep end over this "story".
In the context that the question was asked I think he gave a truthful answer.
Why would Sessions purposely lie about a meeting that occurred in a Senate office?
Something does not add up. More information will come out shortly.
Philip BumpVerified account @pbump 6h6 hours agoPut together a timeline on what Sessions did and said, and am now thinking that Dems are overplaying their hand
Philip BumpVerified account @pbump 3h3 hours agoI’m starting to think that a lot of perceptions of the facts in the Russia-Trump question are colored by partisanship.
hilip BumpVerified account @pbump 2h2 hours agoTalked to two former federal prosecutors: Sessions won't face perjury charges based on the evidence at hand.
Oh Puh-leaze.
You can go on the internet and watch Sessions get asked the question and lie.
He needs to go.
You did get one thing right. This thing is colored by partisanship.
Yours.
BTW, why is it understandable that Sessions would meet with the Russian ambassador?
He wasn't on the Senate Foreign relations committee. He was on the Senate armed services committee.

Obviously the lying under oath is the major story.
However, I'm not so sure about the explanation that Sessions gave about his role on the armed services committee.
Just how many members of the Senate Armed Services committee met with Russian officials and why?
If they all did, that's one thing. If it was only Sessions, that is another.
Old McCaskill decided to pile on but forgot one very small detail.............
Sessions-bashing Claire McCaskill claims she never spoke to Russian ambassador, but her own tweets say otherwise
Republicans blasted Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) Thursday after she ripped into claimed she'd never met with the Russian ambassador — a jab at Attorney General Jeff Sessions — despite evidence that she actually had on at least two occasions."I've been on the Armed Services Com for 10 years. No call or meeting w/Russian ambassador. Ever. Ambassadors call members of Foreign Rel Com," McCaskill, who is one of the growing number of Democrats calling for Sessions to resign, tweeted Thursday morning.
Less than an hour after McCaskill's tweet, conservative commentators pointed out that the Missouri senator, who also sits on the Armed Services Committee, had met with the Russian ambassador on at least two occasions, and even tweeted about them.
West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin said on Thursday that he has met with Kislyak in his capacity as a senator.

Actually she met with a group of senators about Russian adoptions.
But, if the people of Missouri feel that this is unacceptable, I have no problem with them organizng a call for her resignation or a recall election.
If the Senate wishes to censure her, I have no problem with that.
Sessions lied under oath during his confirmation hearing and needs to go.
Don't hide behind Senator McMaskill.
If it was innoccous, why did Sessions lie?
Make all the stupid faces all you like.

Sessions lied under oath during his confirmation hearing.
Look, I realize that you are a creature of Trump.
But, will you surrender every shred of integrity to defend anything?
The plot thickens? What a joke.

Because of people like you for whom words like honesty and honor are a punchline.
You are going to get what you want, and get it good and hard.

I mean, he took an oath, yes?

Sessions lied under oath when he testified before Senate committees. It's on tape and documented.
If you or I did that, we'd be charged and convicted with perjury. Why should Sessions be any different? Especially when you consider he is certified attorney, past member of congress and senate, and now attorney general. He has no viable excuse. He should resign his position. Merely recusing himself is not enough.

Exactly.
should we not demand that the head law enforcement official in the United States be held to at least the same standard as you and I?
