Democratic National Committee 2017 Winter Meeting
The Democratic National Committee met to elect its new leadership, including a new party chair.
Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg has dropped out of the race. He did not endorse anyone.
The first vote was was
Perez 213.5
Ellison 200
Boynton Brown 12
Buttigieg 1
Greene .5
Perez was one vote short!
A second round of voting is under way now.

I guess Perez won. A far better option than Ellison but after watching a bit of the candidate's debate the other night, the Mayor of South Bend (Buttigeg?) would have been my choice.

The Sanders arm of the DNC are really upset again. Perez announced right after the vote that Ellison is the "co-chair" of the DNC to try and ease the upset. People are very unhappy with the "establishment' on both sides.

Yes, there is tension between the two wings of the party.
It was a classy move for Perez to offer the position to Ellison.
Smart too.
I'm giving Perez the benefit of the doubt.
Child of immigrants. Graduate of Brown, where he helped pay his way working as a trash collector and in the Dining hall. Went on to Harvard, and then a distinguished career of service.
He looks like good people.

Yeah Fred, but Common and others of his ilk will be upset because you are not upset.

At the end of the day, electoral wins and significant change at the state and local level won't come from the DNC, but from communities and activists, and individuals with the guts to put themselves out there and run for office.
I say focus less on national organizations and more on the people in your own communities who are making a difference.

Sorry to inform you Fred and Rongone, but Common is correct that the Sanders part of the party is really upset. Unless the following story by CNN is fake news:

Agreed.
The party's future starts at the state and local government
